I've had Lemon-Lime for a year and a half now and still have 4 prompts left. I figured it would be fitting to whip out all of Lemon Chiffon in a couple of days and a single post. And I feel like I've been neglecting Rune/Lyssa for far too long now. So here's a binge just for the two of them.

The First Time

Lyssa swears she’s never going to look at that desk the same way again. Ski has a map spread across its surface now, tracing a slow arc down a broad highway, and all she can think about is her backside somewhere down in the midst of the southern seas and Rune’s hands up in the mountains.

“What’s so funny?” Ski snaps up to glare at her.

“Nothing,” says Lyssa, but she must have shot Rune a look, because now Ski’s on him and he’s blushing and pawing his neck.

“Nothing,” he quickly agrees.

With an exasperated sigh, Ski starts to turn back to her map, but something at the corner of the desk catches her attention. “Is that ink?”

All Tied Up

Ten minutes ago she was on top of him, not a shred of cloth nor shame about her. Now he’s got her pinned beneath him while he fumbles to bring together her wrist, the headboard, and the belt from her robe. And he couldn’t possibly come up with an explanation as to what’s possessed him to do so.

Of course, that’s when she asks, “What are you doing?”

It seems as good a time as any to answer with a joke, so he grins at her as he pulls the knot together. “Teaching you some patience.”

She laughs. “Oh, really?”

“It’s something you seem to be lacking,” he says, securing her other arm.

Her only answer to that is another laugh, that sends her whole body rippling. He pulls back to look at her and her eyes suddenly narrow. “This lesson isn’t going to take all night, is it?”

“It just might.”

The unlit lantern across the room emits a loud snap as it flares up.

Close Quarters

“Get your foot…up on the…there, good.”

“Ow.”

“Oh, Gods, that’s- Don’t stop!”

“Lyss, I think I’m stuck.”

“You’re what?”

“My arm. On the shelf. It’s-”

“So, what you’re saying is you can’t move.”

“Lyss-”

“And if I were to…”

“Lyssa!”

On the other side of the closet door, Ski decides she doesn’t really need a broom right now.

My, It’s Hot in Here

“Lyssa?” he says, with a tug at his collar that only lets another burst of hot air in.

“Hmm?” Sprawled on the couch, Lyssa looks up from her book. She catches him squirming and fumbling with the top button of his shirt and snaps the book shut with a grin.

“You’re doing that on purpose, aren’t you?” The first button slides free and the second quickly follows.

“Doing what?” she says, even as the flames in the hearth swell to lick the roof of the fireplace.

He doesn’t dignify that with an answer, just a look.

“What? Are you hot?” she says, lounging back against the cushions. The sleeveless slip of a dress with its dangerously low neckline pulls tight across her breasts and it’s as if the temperature has jumped yet again.

“You know,” says Rune, nervously kneading the back of his neck, “I think I’ll be in my room.”

“It’s hot in there too,” she says, hastily.

“But there’s a door I can shut.”

Before he’s halfway down the hall he can hear the book and her feet hitting the floor.

Intoxication

“Lyssa…”

“Mmm?”

“I think you might have had just a few too many tonight, love.”

“Eh?”

“You’ve been fondling my pocket for the last five minutes.”

Keeping Each Other Warm

“Damn, that’s cold!” says Lyssa, as Rune’s hand slides over her belly.

“You’re like a furnace.” Another icy hand wedges itself under her hip.

“And you’re like ice!” She gasps at the press of his chest to her bare back. “How do you function?”

“Not well at all.” At least the lips that settle at the base of her neck are hot, even if the fingers creeping down her side are still frigid. “Warm me up?”

Strip Tease

Rune pauses, buttons half undone, suddenly self conscious at the feeling of eyes fixated on him. “What are you doing?”

“Watching you.”

“I’m just undressing for bed. It’s not like I’m putting on a- I am not putting on a show for you, so don’t get any ideas.” He shrugs out of his shirt and Lyssa follows it to the floor with a scowl before returning her eyes to his chest.

“Just how many layers have you got there?”

“Enough.”

“Shame,” she says. “Would make a nice show.”

“I am not about to start stripping-” Lyssa pulls the blankets up in a tent over her breasts and takes a long, thoughtful peek at what lies beneath, all conveniently obscured from his view, before pressing them firmly back in place. Folding her arms across her chest, she shoots him a grin. “Alright, alright.” He pulls the hem of his shirt out of his pants and drags it slowly up over his ribs while Lyssa licks her lips.

The Back Seat

No one pays them much notice, quietly stationed at the back of the hall. Let Ski and Ilya sit at the table and debate logistics all they like. Political discourse puts Lyssa to sleep. Or it would if she was paying any attention to it.

Instead she’s focused on sneaking her hand down Rune’s pants.

“Do you mind?” comes the harsh whisper as she worms her fingers down under the curve of his backside.

“Not at all,” she returns, never taking her eyes from the tedious debate below. “Rather a welcome distraction, really.”

“Some of us would like to pay attention.”

“Right. They lost you in the first two sentences.”

With a bit of wiggling, he manages to extricate her hand from his pants. “Precisely why I’d like to pay attention.”

Lyssa snorts. “I’ve got something you can pay attention to.” It only takes one well practiced shrug to send her neckline dropping, and out of the corner of her eye, she can see him squirming as he tries not to stare. “Not enough?” She lets her hand slide over his thigh and into his lap.

“Lyssa!”

“Shh. At least try to pretend to pay attention.”

Roll in the Hay

“You know, Lyss, we’ve got a perfectly good bed, in a private room, without a few dozen bloody horses staring us down.”

“Weren’t you the one that said maybe we should try new things?”

“But a hayloft, Lyssa?”

“Ski seems to like it.”

“You’re taking bedroom ideas from your sister now?”

“Not after this.”

“I hope not. This itches like-”

“You itch? You don’t have hay in your ass.”

“Hay in your- You know, I bet I could make you forget about that pretty quickly.”

“Do get on with it, would you?”

One Night Stand

“You like that?”

Everything about it is wrong. The voice, the smell, the size of his hands. Especially the voice. “Thought I said no talking.”

“You do, don’t you.”

“I would if you’d shut your mouth and stop ruining it.” At least she can close her eyes so she doesn’t have to look at him. She’d ask herself again what she’s doing here, find another reason to back out, but another week, another day, another hour even and she swears she’s going to burst.

All Night Long

At the towering silhouette that suddenly fills the doorway, Lyssa raises her head.

“Are you still here?” It seems he’s trying to keep as much of the bitterness in his voice as he can.

Lyssa casts her eyes back down on the bottle as she turns it in a slow dance across the floor between her knees. “Not going ‘til we talk about it.”

“Yeah?" says Rune. “Well, I’m going back to bed.”

Lyssa swallows hard. “Can do that,” she says. “Won’t be warm, though.”

There’s a heavy pause, and she can’t see his face in the shadows, but she can picture the look.

“You’re not the only one that’s learned a few tricks over the years.”

“Speaking of tricks, I can make my own fire. Besides,” he says, with a nod to the bottle, “it looks like you’ve already got company.”

“It’s not open.” She waves it over her head, wondering if he can even see it. “Can’t tell you how much I want it right now, but I gave it up.”

He’s leaning on the doorframe, not saying a word as she puts the bottle back down with shaking hands, and she can feel the burn of tears welling in her eyes. She sniffs and blinks them away.

“I’m sorry,” she says. “Sorry for everything.”

There’s scratching and a sigh and then he’s stepping out into the room. “Alright,” says Rune, wearily. “Let’s talk.”

Your Eyes

Rune pops open an eye to meet the pair of amber ones still staring back at him. “What are you doing?”

“Watching you.” When she smiles now, it tugs at the lines around her eyes and the corners of her lips, but it’s just as beautiful a sight as it was twenty years ago.

He reaches up with one hand and gently brushes back the long copper locks that hang alongside her face. “I gathered as much,” he says, settling back down with a sigh and closing his eyes. “You know it’s making it damned hard to sleep. Why are you watching me?”

“You’ll think I’m crazy.”

“Lyss, I already know you’re crazy. What is it this time?”

“I just… don’t want to wake up and find out this was a dream.”

Without opening an eye, he reaches over and pinches her. There’s a squeal and the bed shakes as she rolls away. “See?” he mumbles, grinning to himself. “Not a dream.”

He’s waiting, pretending not to be bracing himself for the inevitable pillow to the face, but Lyssa just settles back beside him and curls an arm around his chest. “So long as you’re here when I wake up.”

He wraps his arm around her shoulders and pulls her in close. “I don’t remember going anywhere in the first place.”

“Thought we weren’t going to talk about that.”

“We’re not. Go to sleep.”

Her weight shifts against him, and he doesn’t need to look to know she’s staring again, but he opens his eyes anyway to find her leaning over him, smiling.

“Love you,” she says.

“I love you too, Lyss.”
