“You need to meet Dad.”
“I’ve already met your dad,” Carrie said cautiously.
“Yeah, but in passing, since we were distracted by revenge,” Dean said. “He wants to be able to talk to you.”
That resulted in a pause. “Okay,” she said. “Why don’t I walk out to your house tomorrow? It’s only fair, you’re always coming to town.”
Dean shook his head. “I don’t want Karl and Richard to decide on revenge. I’ll come get you.”
“How’s that going to stop them?”
He grinned. “They’re properly scared of me again.”
She laughed. “You are an idiot. See you tomorrow!”

“Carrie, this is my dad. Dad, this is Carrie.”
Carrie stuck out her hand gravely. “Hello, Mr. Dakamar.”
Dean could see his dad fighting a smile as he took it. “Please, call me Sorin. I haven’t been called Mr. Dakamar in a long time. Dean likes to say he doesn’t have a last name.”
The teenager wrinkled his nose. “I don’t say that much any more.”
Carrie nudged him in the side, visibly relaxing. “It’s nice to officially meet you. I’m sorry I wasn’t more polite last time.”
Sorin smiled crookedly. “I realize you had a lot on your mind.”

“Russ, can you come down? Carrie’s here.”
Russell clambered down the ladder and grinned at the pair. “Hey. I’m Russ.”
“He’s like my older brother because he’s been living with us since Dad came back,” Dean explained as the two shook hands.
Russ reached over and ruffled Dean’s hair irreverently, startling a giggle out of Carrie and a glower out of Dean. “Yeah, I keep an eye on him when Sorin can’t.”
“Someday, I’m going to have a mission all by myself.”
“That’s what you’ll think,” Russ said, winking.
Carrie laughed. “I like it that you guys protect each other.”

If anything, Carrie was afraid Sage would be more awkward. Carrie knew there was something slightly different to their relationship, something understated but solid. Dean dragged her to the small barn.
“Oh, there you…” Sage’s face lit up in almost unholy glee. “You must be Carrie!”
“Hi!” Carrie said, deciding she’d had enough of being intimidated. “You must be Sage.”
The older girl grinned. “That’s me. Pleasure to finally meet you. Dean only talks about you all the time,” she said wickedly.
Both girls were amused as Dean turned red. “I...not all the time,” he sputtered.
“Sure ya don’t, Deany.”

She met Mal and Morgan the same day as the two, practically inseparable but insisting there was nothing more going on, arrived on a fall afternoon.
“Morgan!” Dean said, hugging her and grinning easily at Mal. “I want you two to meet Carrie.”
“Carrie?” Mal said blankly until Morgan stepped, unsubtly, on his foot and understanding dawned. “Oh, Carrie! Hello!”
She grinned. “Hi. It’s nice to meet more of Dean’s family.”
“Nice to meet you too. So when are you joining KIN?”
“As soon as Dean asks me,” Carrie said.
“As soon as I...wait, what?”
“Good,” Morgan said breezily, winking.

Colin, not surprisingly, approached the situation from a similar angle. After greeting Carrie politely, spending some time closeted with Sorin and then reappearing for dinner, he broached the subject. “So Morgan told me that you said Dean hadn’t invited you yet.”
Dean grumbled. “I did too.” He paused. “After that,” he added for the sake of honesty.
“I’d like to,” she said, surprised at how at ease she felt around Colin already. “But I really want to finish my schooling first, which is another almost two years.”
Colin grinned. “There is a spot for you from the moment you graduate.”
