Summary: Lars sucks at romance.

There were signs and signals involved in this sort of thing. Lars was usually pretty shit at at interpreting them, though. Hanging out with Summer had not helped his social life any.

For example, with Madison. He hadn't seen the breakup coming. Her friends had, apparently, and so had some of his (not counting Aaron, because he had freakishly good instincts when it came to this sort of thing), but he hadn't. Not that it would have been any less devastating if he'd known it was coming; it might even have been the worse for anticipation.

And then there was Carla. He thought she wanted space when she wanted to be cuddled, and vice versa. In fairness, he was pretty sure that Carla was as shit at giving signals as he was at reading them. But you'd still think that he'd learn with experience. He really hadn't.

He'd also misinterpreted pretty much everything Pam did, but that relationship was best left unexamined in the "brief hideous disasters" portion of his brain.

So now there was this thing with Danny. He was ninety percent sure that he was imagining things. He'd had a horrible crush on her for so long that he could have gone a little bit crazy. And Danny herself was... well, Danny. She'd had such a fucked-up childhood and such fucked-up parents that there was no way she could be sending the signals he thought she was. Any signs of interest she made would be so completely different that he wouldn't have a prayer of reading them right.

And then one night they were out with the gang and the band and she said "Fuck it" abruptly and reached over the table, grabbed the front of his shirt, hauled him forward and kissed him hard. There was whooping from the band and Ivy laughing and someone said "Pay up" to someone else and there was money changing hands probably and all Lars could really think was that this signal was hard to miss.
