Here's a portion of what Falootin asked to see awhile back - Kairn's return to the necromancers - still working on the piece about how they found him. This is shortly before the whole 'rescue mission' series.

REMOVED FROM CANON 5/15/10 This was written before Reida even existed much less meddled to the extent she now has.

Kairn lifted his head at the creak of the door, blinking at the momentary flood of light that washed over the cell. A slender figure slipped into the room, a tall, dark shape in a cloak, that hadn’t changed a bit in the decade since he’d last seen it.

“What?” Kairn cast his eyes back to his bonds “Your turn now?” He received no answer but the tread of boots across the floor. “Go on, get to it.” Pressing his eyes shut, he gritted his teeth and braced himself for the first blow.

“Relax.” Sethan’s cloak rustled about him as he seated himself. “I’m not here to hurt you.” Kairn pried an eye open to peer at the form hunched on the narrow bench. Sethan folded his hands and let them fall between his knees. He trained his eyes on the floor, his face as blank and still as it ever was. “I need a favor.”

“Right.” Kairn turned away, the chain that held his wrists thumping against his legs, a sharp reminder of more than one of the bruises he bore there, as he settled on the floor. “So much more likely to get it that way. Should have just hit me.”

“I can’t see the good it will do either of us, but if you keep insisting.” A hand closed over his arm and Kairn went rigid.

“I’m not taking you to him.” He felt the brush of rough cloth against him as Sethan slid past.

“Not asking you to.” Crouched in front of him, Sethan gave his arm a tug. Kairn shuddered at the rub of metal against sore wrists. “Everyone already knows well enough where he is.” He dipped a hand into a pocket and produced a key. “Kinu’s on his way now.”

“Then what?” He stared at the hands that turned over his shackles in search of the lock.

“Your knight friends,” said Sethan. Metal rattled in his grasp. “I want you to let them know where he is.”

Kairn jerked his head up, the movement earning him a bite from his bonds and a stern look from Sethan. “Why?” he said, searching the other’s eyes for any hint of underlying emotion. “So you can be rid of them too? All your problems neatly cleaned up all at once?”

Sethan shoke his head, the corner of his lip twitching as he laid Kairn’s wrist back over his knee to give the lock another try. “Yes,” he said. “I need you for that.”

Kairn scowled but held still. “Then-?”

“I want him out of town before Kinu gets there.” There was a click and the cuff slid open. “And it’s about time he had someone with him that could fight.”

“Yeah, I suppose.” he gave the stiff joint a shake while Sethan reached for the other. “Wait, what-? Why would you-?”

This time, when he managed to catch Sethan’s eyes, the gleam was unmistakable. A full grin spread across the man‘s face. “You think you’re the one that’s kept him safe all this time?”
