“Selena?” She was pretty sure she was shouting, but her voice registered as barely more than a whisper to her own ears. “Demi, do you have any idea what time it is?” Selena’s groggy voice echoed over the line.

“I’m Sowry…Selly, I need you…” Demi slurred out.

“Demi? Where are you?” Selena sighed before shuffling could be heard from her end. “I…I dun know.” Demi wailed looking around at the desolate beach she didn’t even remember driving to.

“What can you see, Dem?” Selena asked tiredly. “Wat-ter.” Demi giggled just a bit before sniffling. “Is there sand?” Selena asked slowly. She hated when Demi did this. “Yesh.” Demi looked down at the sand she was sitting on.

“Selly…why aren’t you here?” Demi asked around a hiccup.

“Because I didn’t go to Miley’s party.” Selena tried to keep her anger in check. “You doesn’t like Mileses?” Selena gritted her teeth. “No, Demi, I do not like Miley. Now tell me what else you see.” Demi looked around again. Not noticing anything but water and sand she shrugged.

“Demi?” Selena questioned as she pulled out of her driveway.  “I don know!” Demi played with the sand absently. “Do you see lights; is there a sign anywhere, anything other than water and sand?”  Selena asked as she slowed to a stop for a red light.

“Oh! Yesh, there is a sparkly moving light on the hill.” Demi supplied pointing needlessly at the light. “A lighthouse you mean?” Demi nodded. “Yep.” Selena screwed her eyes shut. It was gonna be a long drive. “Okay, don’t move. I’m on my way.”

Selena kept Demi on the phone until she had pulled into the almost empty parking lot of the beach. Demi stumbled to her feet when she saw the older girl walking toward her. “Selly!” She threw her arms out and tackled Selena to the ground.

“Demi, come on, let’s get you home.” Selena maneuvered herself into a sitting position and then tried to push Demi off, but the other girl wouldn’t move. “Uh-uh, we stay right here…” Demi mumbled out as her eyes drifted shut.

“Demi…Demi, get up.” When she got no response other than a gentle snore, Selena groaned and pulled off her jacket to lay it over her unconscious friend.

Three hours later, as the sun was rising and painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, Demi finally woke up. Blinking awake she noted that there was another person with her. ‘Ugh, who did I sleep with last night? Think, Demi, think!’ She thought, used to waking up with total strangers on a regular basis.

“About time you woke up. My leg fell asleep two hours ago.” A familiar voice spoke from above her. ‘Sel? No, that’s not…could it?’ Demi turned to look up at the older girl. “What…when…hi?” A nervous laugh escaped the young singer.

“Don’t worry, you didn’t do anything too stupid.” Selena commented amused at Demi’s reaction. “You don’t remember calling me do you?” Demi shook her head. “That figures.” Selena smirked as her gaze drifted out over the choppy water.

“I’m sorry…you didn’t have to come.” Demi muttered half heartedly, pushing herself up so she was sitting next to Selena.

“Yes I did. Who else was gonna drive all the way out here at three in the morning to act as a stand in pillow?” Selena questioned adjusting her jacket so that it wrapped around the other girls shoulder’s once again.

“Thank you.” Demi breathed out fighting against the whimper that wanted to escape as Selena’s fingers brushed against her skin. “Well, I wasn’t about to just leave you out here by yourself.” Selena sighed, her agitation at exactly why Demi was out there coming back to her.

It was silent for a few minutes; both girls simply enjoying the sunrise and spending time just being in each others presence.

“I miss you, Sel.” Demi said after a while. “I never left, Dem.” Selena slid her hand over the younger girls and squeezed gently. “Do you think we could ever go back? You know like be together the way we were before?” Demi asked staring at Selena’s hand on her own.

“No.” Selena said sadly making Demi wince.

“Would you let me try? Try to be better? I could stop drinking, and I would never, ever sleep around on you. I could be the person I was. Please, Sel, let me try?” Demi asked gripping the other girls hand like everything depended on it and in a way she guessed it kinda did.

“Demi, you can’t ask me to try to be your girlfriend again when you’re already seeing someone.” Selena stood up and began whipping the sand from her pj bottoms.

“I’ll leave. I’ll leave Miley. I’m not happy with her, and she’s not happy with me…I can’t keep doing this, Sel. I drink so I won’t remember what it’s like to be with you…and I sleep around hoping to remember. I’m driving myself insane!” Selena watched as tears started to fall from Demi’s eyes.

“Baby, I miss you too…but I can’t put myself through that again. You killed me when you said that you where better off without me…you have no idea how it felt to walk in on you and then to have you tear my heart to shreds!” Both girls were choking back sobs at this point.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I was so stupid…I’ll never hurt you again, baby, just give me a chance? Give us a chance?” Selena kneeled down in front of the other girl and pulled her into her.

“Do you have any idea how much I love you?” She whispered to her as Demi buried her face in her shoulder. “I’d do anything for you. I’ll give you one more chance. I’ll give you my heart again…but, please, Demi, don’t break it this time.”
