Character: Kanata
Series: Trinity Universe
Version: Before the events of chapter 10.
Age: 818 (Physically appears to be about 18 years old.)
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Unknown

Appearance:

With just the way Kanata dresses, one would never guess at what his true character is like. Dark, flowy clothing with an even more ornate red and gold robe over all that, he certainly dresses fancier than he actually acts. (One can't go around adventuring and fighting monsters in such clothing, so he also has a modified version of his robes. A version that trades in the long sleeves for a pair of arm-length dark gloves. Of course, even this is still fancy in its own way, what with the cloud like decorations hanging on the gloves and the odd tie on the front of his robes. ... it's not explained how or when he changes into this getup, though concept art seems to imply that he uses magic to change his normal outfit.)

Of course, while all his clothing beguiles his true nature, that's just his clothing!

Kanata stands at about five feet and eight inches tall with fair skin and messy, pale hair. Telling of his demonic heritage are his bright red eyes, telling of his actual nature are the floppy, black dog ears atop his head. Oh, and there's his fluffy tail too, which is usually wagging happily.

Personality:

"You're the Overlord?! ... ... really?" sums up Kanata pretty well. Most who meet him are surprised to find out he's supposed to be the resident demon king, and with good reason--puppy ears aside. Upbeat and carefree, Kanata is actually quite kind for a demon. (To put this in perspective, the prinnies of the Prinny Squad consider him a friend. N-no one has ever been so nice to them before, dood!)

Unfortunately, Kanata is also quite innocent. Due to how he was raised he never really got to experience things out in the world, so he's naive and doesn't know a whole lot outside of what he's read or heard about from others. It's also because of this upbringing that Kanata is... well, childish. In a number of ways. He's very curious about many things, doesn't always listen, can get easily distracted, and often turns to his servant to ask permissions, to ask questions, or even to hide behind her sometimes--not unlike a kid to their parent. In turn, she ends up trying to correct his behavior, sometimes to not much avail... the list is quite long, really!

Adding to the list of Things Caused by Kanata's Upbringing, is Kanata's love of adventure. Oh, to see the stars overhead, to find potential treasures hidden everywhere, to see and explore new places, the thrill of fighting monster after monster--just thinking about it all gets his heart pounding! He really can't stand staying cooped up indoors for too long.

Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths:

On the less offensive side, Kanata can use exploration magic, sometimes called "Sensation". When casting it, different colored trails of light will shoot out and lead to various things. A white light (more relevant to his own world) leads to the gravitational field of an object, blue and yellow lights lead to hidden treasures, while a red light will lead to a hunting ground--where monsters are essentially coming from and filtering out into the area. It can only be used so many times before it stops working, however.

Very nimble and balanced as a fighter--with a leaning towards physical strength--Kanata's weapon of choice is a large sword that's been fortified with a managraphic. (It's got a pretty/magical design painted on it, in short. Oh, uh, it also... smells nice. Yes. His sword smells very nice. T-this is due to the mana.) Kanata also has a form of offensive magic where a ball of light (or multiple) appears behind the opponent before exploding like fireworks.

Kanata's ultimate technique, 犬魔王技・闇哭斬翔閃 (roughly, "Dog Overlord Special - Ankokuzen Shousen"?) involves attacking and knocking his opponent into the air, before using his Overlord's aura to damage and pin them in place. He finishes the opponent by knocking them into the distance, and leaping after them with one last slice from his sword. Of course, this ends with the enemy caught in flourish of fireworks (magic) as well. Yeah, it's a very showy attack.

Character-wise, it's hard to say if Kanata is really brave, or if he really just doesn't have any sense for dangerous stuff at all. Perhaps it's a little bit of both? Or maybe just the latter completely. Who knows!

In the end, though, one of Kanata's greatest strengths is his kindness--he's made many reliable friends thanks to it. ... well, that, and the fact that Kanata is occasionally, surprisingly wise in his own dumb way. Sometimes what matters really is as simple as enjoying the taste of the food at the soba and takoyaki stands.

Weaknesses:

Kanata is the kind to be easily misled. Being so innocent about the world, it's quite easy to trick him, and get him to believe false information. (His own servant does this for laughs, in fact. Kanata kind of believes that you can drink magma now. And that it has a strawberry flavor.) He's also not exactly the brightest crayon in the box, and being a bit of an easily distracted cloudcuckoolander doesn't help either.

He is also sometimes, perhaps, too nice. Where it would have been more beneficial to be ruthless, Kanata has been too lenient. Included in this category: fake up a good sob story, and you're golden. Really. He'll believe you and let you off the hook. You may not even have to go that far!

While he's excellent at fighting with a sword, without it, Kanata's not got a lot much else to defend himself with--aside from magic. Even then, his magic is not terribly strong despite how flashy it looks.

Oh. And his ears are delicate, please don't pull on them. :(

Sample LJ post:

Heeey! Does anyone know some good places to eat at? I've been wondering about what kind of restaraunts they have here. Any place with soba would be great, but new stuff is okay too~

... oh, that's right.

Umm, I think I have a lucky coin or two somewhere. But I guess I should've asked this first... what do I do about money? Tsubaki doesn't let me go shopping all by myself yet, so she always took care of the wallet.

Sample RP post:

"I've heard about these!" They looked kind of like the dragons that circled around the Netherworld, Kanata thought. A lot more grey and a little less cool-looking, but they had plenty of fun shapes of their own. "Clouds, right? They look so soft..." Leaning as far back as he could without falling over, Kanata stared up at the clouds above him with wonder. Sure, they blocked out the stars, but if he squinted and tilted his head to the left, that one totally looked like a monster! That was just as cool!

Straightening up and rubbing the muscles behind his sore neck, Kanata trodded onwards. There was still a lot more to see yet! Like all the puddles of water along the road. Those definitely meant something! Kanata couldn't quite remember what, exactly. But that didn't stop him from taking delight in stepping in them. Even Tsubaki's irritated pleas wouldn't be able to grab his attention now.

The thunderclap in the distance, did, however.

Startled, Kanata whirled towards the direction of the sound before turning back to the rest of the group, ears twitching. "Tsubaki!" His voice was full of excitement. "Tsubaki, did you hear that!?"
