Ahh Goodkind, how I am starting to loathe thee wolfman_th82 August 15 2006, 23:22:29 UTC
Well, I haven't read the criticism yet, but I will. A few things to note first though: Phantom is fairly good. I read it in 3 marathon sessions at Borders. Not one of the top three, but not Pillars of Creation. Goodkind likes torture discussing far too much. It was interesting the first book, but HEY, it's had at least some part in every book since, and the last is no exception.

Everyone that reads SF needs to check out the Reality Dysfunction series by Peter F. Hamilton. Alex, this means you! Good lord. I think of it as David McFarland (Runelords) meets Willam Dietz and John Dalmas (military SF) for tea. This results in a well written, entertaining, thrilling, bastard love child of a space opera. Did I mention there are Satanists? I'm 4 books in out of 6, and it is still quite strong.
Hmm, what else? You need to read some L.E. Modesitt Jr. Just not too much. I recommend Adiamante, The Parafaith War and The Ethos Effect.

Take it easy

Thanks for the advice, Geoff! I am running out of things to read... I've been going through the Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin for a second time (because it's that good!). Besides that, I've got one book left in Sara Douglass' six book Wayfarer Redemption series, and I had been meaning to give Elizabeth Haydon a shot, but I'll try out this Reality Dysfunction series first.

I'd give you some recommendations, but I don't think I've read anything good lately that you haven't already tried (you have read the Song of Ice and Fire, right? Just checking...)

I need to finish Martin's series. I know you said the third and fourth were the good ones.
