Canon Format: Video Game
Character's Name: Celes Chere
Character's Age: 18

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Celes is a highly skilled swordsman and tactician; she came by her rank of general honestly. In addition to that, she was artificially infused with the ability to use magic, mostly ice spells, some status effects (such as poison), and a few curative ones. She'll have those static effect spells, and mid-level elemental ones, considering her canon point.
But her most iconic ability is indicative of her training as a Rune Knight. She can prepare any sword she wields to absorb spells cast around her, be they those of her enemies or allies, and replenish her own magical reserves with the spent power. She has to activate the blade before every spell she intends to absorb, and once it is prepared, it absorbs the very next spell cast; she has no control over which spell once the ability is primed. Given the mechanics of her canon source, there's no listed range, but for the purposes of SP, I'd like to give it a range of approximately 40 feet in all directions, including above and below.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? N/A
Weapons: A sword with runes printed on the blade
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: As an infant, Celes was selected to be infused with the essence of an Esper, as part of an experiment to impart magical ability to humans. She grew up within the city of Vector with Cid, a scientist working on the Magitek project. He did not treat her purely as a test subject, but more like a daughter. She grew to think of him as family as well, but did not express it.
The experiment was a success, and Celes was put on the route to becoming one of the Empire's elite Magitek Knights. By the age of eighteen, she was one of the Empire's top generals, even having a reputation outside of the Empire itself -- such as among the Returners, a resistance movement dedicated to bringing down the Empire.
She lead many a campaign, her most famous being the torching of the town of Maranda. But she had doubts about the Empire here and there. Doubts that came to a head when she learned of Kefka's plans to poison the castle city of Doma. That cowardly act was something she could not abide, and for her trouble, she wound up arrested for treason, beaten, and sentenced to die in the city of South Figaro.
The day before her scheduled execution, however, she was freed by one of the Returners: a man named Locke Cole. Not one to be passive, even when being rescued, she fought by his side as they fled the occupied city. When a fearsome magical machine blocked their path, she demonstrated her ability as a Rune Knight, rendering the machine's magic attacks harmless.
She and Locke made their way to the mining town of Narshe, where more of the Returners had gathered. There was immediate hostility and suspicion about her loyalties, but Locke defended her with surprising conviction despite the fact that they'd just met. When news arrived that the Empire was moving on the town to take control of the frozen Esper in the mines, Celes became part of the Returner forces set to keep the Empire at bay.
After successfully defending the Esper, she and the other Returners checked on the Esper, and one of them, Terra, had a strange reaction to it: she morphed into some otherworldly creature, and flew off with a scream.
Celes participated in the search for Terra, who was revealed to be half Esper when they find her. The Esper Ramuh asked that the group free those of his kind trapped in Vector, the Empire's capitol city; one of them might have the ability to help Terra. Celes volunteered to be in the group that heads for Vector, as she knew it well. She also revealed that an infusion of an Esper's essence is what gave her the ability to use magic.
She, Locke, and others headed south to the town of Jidoor, in search of a means to reach the Southern Continent. They learned of a man called Setzer Gabbiani, who owned the world's only airship. And who also was deeply infatuated with an opera singer named Maria; he left a letter at the impresario's house saying that he was coming to steal Maria away as his bride at the next performance.
By amazing coincidence, Celes turned out to be a dead ringer for Maria. At first, she was indignant at the idea of being the decoy of an opera singer, but Locke managed to prevail upon her to agree; they needed to do this to get the airship, and there was no other feasible way. She did well in the decoy role, and when Setzer snatched her away, the others were able to follow him to the airship.
The group was able to convince Setzer to help them even after he realized that he'd been tricked, and subsequently set out for Vector. Once there, they broke into the Magitek Research Facility and reached an area where the Espers were kept in glass isolation tubes. The Espers senses Ramuh's presence with them, and gave up what little life remained in them to become shards of magicite.
At this point, Kefka came bursting in with a number of troops, cackling about how Celes had thoroughly fooled the Returners. To save the group, Celes reluctantly used a spell to teleport Kefka and the soldiers away along with herself.
When Celes next appeared, there was a tentative truce between the Empire and the Returners, and she had been reinstated as an Imperial general. On the voyage to the town of Thamasa, Locke attempted several times to speak to her, but she refused to say anything.
Celes worked with General Leo to find the entrance to the Esper World, but it was ultimately the Returner group that found it. When the two groups met back at Thamasa, Kefka once again showed up with Imperial troops, commanding them the burn the town. Though the Espers aided in defending the town, they were ultimately killed and turned to magicite. Celes and the others were subsequently knocked out in the struggle.
With newfound magical strength, Kefka gave rise to the Floating Continent. The Returners used the airship to reach it, and braved the dangers there to reach Kefka and Emperor Ghestahl. The Emperor rendered everyone but Celes immobile with power given him by the three Esper statues. Kefka handed her a sword, and offered her a position ruling the world at their side -- if she killed her friends. Celes appeared to consider it, and raised the blade. But she could not bring herself to do such a thing, and instead turned around and stabbed Kefka.
In a rage over being wounded, Kefka shifted the Esper statues around, causing the land both on the Floating Continent and below to shift and collapse. Celes and the others raced to escape the Floating Continent, and scarcely made it to the airship. But beams of magical energy cut through the ship, destroying it and sending everyone plummeting to the earth below.
This will be where the Pull takes Celes.
Point in Canon: The fall of the Floating Continent
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A
Character Personality: When we first meet Celes, two things stand out: her dignity and her honour. She was once a general for the Empire, but when she discovered the plans to overtake a fortified city by means of poisoning the water supply, she spoke out against it, though she must have known that she risked dire consequences. She saw the act as dishonourable and cowardly. She feels that any opponent, any situation, is best dealt with in honest fashion.
She is resistant to accepting help, feeling that she can handle things on her own. She's a trained soldier, after all. While she will accept aid in particularly desperate situations, what she won't do is sit back passively and let her "rescuer" do all the work; she's no damsel in distress, thank you. She has little patience for anyone who thinks she is.
In fact, she has little patience in general, at first. She's a good and honourable person at heart, but she's also quite ruthless at times. If something gets in the way of a plan? She doesn't care. The plan is more important than whoever might be hurt in the process. Learn to make sacrifices, people. It's for your own good. And if you don't like it? Tough. She's not here to coddle anyone. As long as you're not dead, you'll recover.
That being said, someone she knows and respects can talk her into a compromise. Even if it means doing something she'd rather not do, she'll act for the good of the goal regardless. So in essence, she doesn't really tell anyone to do anything she's not willing to do herself.
Celes has done awful things in the past. Towns were razed on her command. She acknowledges her evil acts, rather than running from them or justifying them. If people don't trust her when they learn who she is, she accepts that. Thinks it's wise, even. She doesn't feel entitled to a person's trust, and indeed can be baffled that anyone would readily offer it.
This lends her to being a rather lonely person. She was brought up in largely solitary fashion, groomed from birth to be a soldier. And being a soldier means that even if she has emotions, she's to suppress them; they are a hindrance just as an attachment to others is. Growing up, she only manages to form a bond with one person, but even that person she keeps at arm's-length. She just feels that it's better and safer that way. If she doesn't feel, then she can't be hurt.
But she does feel. Gradually, her cold attitude softens, and she has people she considers friends. Celes proves to be a very protective friend, willing to do anything to ensure the safety of those she cares for - even if it looks like she's betraying them.
She's someone unaccustomed to having friends, and is only now discovering how deeply such feelings can run. If she commits an act that appears treacherous, she has a difficult time believing that she can be forgiven. She falls into silence when confronted with friends again, and can be prone to depression.
But when she is forgiven for a dire transgression, it confuses her. The world of positive emotions is unfamiliar territory to Celes, and she remains unsure of how to handle it. But she's coming to enjoy that world regardless.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Once she gets over the shock of being in a new place, and the depression of not knowing whether her friends survived the cataclysm, Celes will likely take up the cause of protecting the city and its inhabitants from any dangers, be it the Darkness monsters or the companies. She might either join the police force or a vigilante group, depending on her impression of the former.

[The feed opens on a young blonde woman who looks a bit ragged and tired, and she has a bandage wrapped around her forehead. Her eyebrows are mildly furrowed as she tries to work out how to properly operate the device. She muses aloud to herself without realizing that she's successfully enabled the video function.] A mass communications network? Even Vector never had anything like this. Just how long have I been unconscious?
[At last, she recognizes that the NV is working, and though she still looks every bit as worn out, her face takes on a stoic, business-like cast. It won't do for her to look weak in the eyes of strangers.] Excuse me. My name is Celes Chere. Evidently, I was to have received pertinent information upon my . . . arrival, but circumstances prevented it. Is there anyone out there who can provide information about where I am and what the year is? I think I might have lost a great deal of time. [She pauses, and there's a slight hint of sadness and concern that lurks behind her eyes.] And several people.

Celes hadn't expected to wake up in a medical facility. In fact, she hadn't expected to wake up at all. A fall from so great a height . . . Surely that wasn't survivable. Perhaps this was the afterlife, though why the afterlife would need medical facilities was a mystery to her.
She shifted a little, and hissed at the pain that shot through her body at even so simple a motion. Very well; she couldn't be dead if she were still able to feel pain. How she had managed to survive, however, was still very much in question. And where she had lived, maybe the others had, as well.
"Well, you certainly seem livelier than when you were brought in. Usually, the Core pulls people when they're in a bit better shape."
Celes started at the sound of the man's voice, jerking her head in its direction. This unfortunately caused a sharp snap of agony in her neck, but she endeavoured to keep the grimace off her face. And she managed to pull the act off rather well, if truth be told. This was not a time to appear vulnerable. She needed information.
"What is this 'Core' you're speaking of?" Was it some construction of whatever scraps might remain of the Empire? Some abomination of Kefka's?
The man appeared to pay little attention to her, casually striding over to her bed while reading what must have been a medical chart. "Right, right. You were unconscious at the field, yes? Guess that means that you missed out on the explanations. Should do something about that."
Yes, learning about her current circumstances would be prudent. Now if only the man before her - presumably her doctor - would actually provide her with any useful information. Instead, he merely prodded a few tender areas on her arm, forcing her to hold back a hiss. She settled for glaring at him. Honestly, he could at least explain things while he examined her, since she was clearly not in so bad a way.
But she held her annoyance in check; it would not do to alienate someone who could be useful. Perhaps he would get to the point once he was finished with the examination.
"Well, you certainly seem to be on the mend, Miss. I'll need you to stay the night for observation, but I expect you can walk out of here tomorrow."
This was good news, and she accepted it with the aplomb of a seasoned soldier. But she still wasn't getting the answers that she needed, and that was something that she would not accept.
"This is all well and good, but you still haven't answered my question."
The doctor shook his head. "Sorry, Miss. But I've got a lot of other patients to check in on, so I can't spend any more time here." He vaguely gestured toward a table at her side. "Just connect to the network, or look up the info on your N.V. Should get you your answers."
Celes blinked. "N.V? Network? What are you . . . Hey, hold on a minute!"
But he was gone. With an irritated sigh, she shifted toward the doctor had gestured at. And she blinked again when she saw what was there. Magicite?
She lifted the shard -- No. This wasn't a shard of magicite. The weight and feel of it were wrong. Could this be the device that the otherwise unhelpful doctor had been talking about? Well. She had little enough else to do at the moment. Perhaps she would be able to contact the others.
