I recognized you immediately by your long and thoughtful response, McG. :) Thank you. I appreciate you stopping by my LJ.
You know the sad part? Kids all over the world will be reading this and thinking that this is how normal teenagers are supposed to act. This petty bickering, cheating, fits of jealousy, what-have-you, is supposedly something every teenager goes through. I never saw a more thorough assassination of a teenager than this book.
That's what gets to me, too. JKR wrote this, knowing that kids everywhere look up to these characters--particularly Hermione--and see how the heroine behaves! It's incredible that Hermione's poor characterization got past the editors... Then again, they're all yes-people, aren't they? :(
I'm holding on to the hope that there's a better explanation for these travesties.

Thanks for reading, and it's a pleasure to meet you. :)
I have to say, the chapters without the alien!trio actually /saved the book for me, I wanted to tear the middle out, and just have the remainder. I kept thinking, so ..this is a fanfic, right? We're going to get the REAL book, tomorrow.
I definitely agree with you about the few redeeming chapters of HBP. It's painful to think that the stuff outside of Hogwarts was much more interesting than what happened within, but given the inconsequential absurdities that took place in the castle, not counting the end... Well, it was just crap. I'm not gullible enough or shallow enough to buy that shit.
It's good to hear that I wasn't the only one thinking it was a joke fanfic copy of HBP. The whole time, I was wondering if VOMITers had somehow succeeded in dispersing fake HBP copies without realizing how badly written they were. Turns out it was all JKR's fault. :(
It's not even the ships themselves that bother me, if it's written like that, OBHWFers can have their cake and wave it in our

You're right; JKR has seriously gone down in my estimation. The sad thing (or not) is that I still find enough bits of the old Hermione in HBP (the very very beginning and the very end) and my love of H/Hr is still strong no matter WHAT happened in h/hr that I'm not giving up. Or perhaps I'm just in denial.
That's what makes HBP even stranger. The first third of it seemed normal enough, with traces of the regular H/Hr connection still present, but the closer they got to Hogwarts, the more OOC everyone became. Harry's OOCness began the moment we saw him, unfortunately. I couldn't believe he got over Sirius so quickly.
I'm not giving up either, and if that makes me a fool to believe that JKR may have some depth as an author, then so be it.
H/Hr is the ship that should have sailed, rightfully.
I agree with your whole post. I think the betrayal that I felt over Hermione's character assassination, along with Harry's, and others, completely overshadowed any feeling I had over Snape's betrayal of Dumbledore. When he killed him, I'm like, "Oh whatever! Get off the page, already, and let me mourn for my favorite characters!" heh.
Anyway, I posted long-winded things on other entries, so I'll just wave hi, and say I friended you.
I was wondering if we could post your commentary on a site I'm working on with a couple of friends designed for all delusional shippers out there. You'll be given full credit of course.
If you are interested, let me know.

PS. I loved your editorial, btw. I can't think of anyone who could have said it better.

I agree. I was thinking that Tonks and him switched souls or something.
