You can't have a lawful good badass. This comment arose from a conversation with my brother regarding a character from one of my stories. Both of us have played D&D, from which the "lawful good" terminology originates. In D&D (prior to the recent 4th edition anyway :P) there are three kinds of "good" that a person can be. A lawful good person is ( Read more... )

The most badass of badasses are lawful good. Allow me to quote something from a discussion of "cam lawful good be awesome" from elsewhere ( ... )

That is an awesome quotation. :D My exorcist is definitely that kind of person.

Seems rational to me. Being Lawful Good does not preclude being a badass, IMHO.

If my D&D group wasn't already in the middle of a campaign I would want to try one right now. :) I'll have to settle for my fiction for now.

Well, for another example, Superman is almost always presented as Lawful Good, but he can be pretty badass when he wants to be.

And despite the fact that the law is out to arrest him, I'd call Vash the Stampede from Trigun a Lawful Good badass, too.

One more example: Walker, Texas Ranger :P

I am sadly underexposed to Superman, other than a few episodes that were done in conjuction with the Batman: The Animated Series. :( (And Superfriends, which I don't think really counts for anything. :P) I wouldn't doubt that Superman is Lawful Good, but I haven't seen much that breaks his boy scout image.

Vash is a pretty good guy though, and yeah, he fits in the badass category.

Now that I think about it Batman probably does too, and I don't think anyone questions his "badass" rep. :P

If batman is lawful good I will eat my hat. Actually, here:

(This is safe for work, unless batman gets you fired.)

I guess you never watched the Superman animated series from the 90's, but I'd call that version of him a Lawful Good badass. This is the same version of him that was used in the more recent Justice League series. Here's a scene from the final episode of Justice League, which no one can deny is totally badass. Spoilers, obviously:

I'd also call Batman from the 90's animated series a Lawful Good badass, but most other versions of Batman are Neutral Good.

I must admit that I prefer Lawful Evil or True Neutral. Nothing says badass more than a self-serving bastard.
