Dilemma

I have lost my courage for this writing project (NaNoWriMo). And, at the same time, I have gotten a little of my musical courage back: I played and sang better, today, than I have in a long time (maybe ever), even though I've not been practicing. Mostly because I'm relaxing certain tensions. (Do I tense something mental when I write ( Read more... )

National Novel Writing Month. *Bad* novels, which is taken for granted. http://www.nanowrimo.org. It's great fun, if your muse likes you. My trouble is that I'm unwilling to write bad prose. Or more of it than I have already. That sort of defeats the purpose. *cries*

Maybe you were doing better in music because you weren't worrying about it anymore.

It could just be a slump. You can't be a writer at every minute of every day.

Re the music: I totally agree. It's all about relaxation. Writing may be the same problem.

*hugs* Thanks for the encouragement!

Dear girl, keep writing. Even if every word is ripped from you and leaves little trails of blood as it's dragged onto the paper, keep writing. I'm hardly one to lecture you, I'm younger, and less experienced, but writing can keep you alive.

It's kept me alive. Good luck, dearest.

*blesses you* You're right, love. If I didn't believe writing had life to give, I wouldn't be here. I just haven't found the Fount of Youth yet. (Lecture all you like--not that that was a lecture, more like lifeblood--you're more experienced than I am in the way of writing.) THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH. <3

i agree--keep writing. you must, if only for the sake of writing. every writer thinks the way that you do; you are not alone!

When it comes to writing, it's best to lower your standards. Words aren't like boys--you can go back later and make words better without them screwing up your life. My first work often looks like I threw up on a piece of paper, but it's a lot easier to create beauty (only skin deep, remember) when there's a skeleton to build upon.

Of course, I haven't finished a novel, either. But if I had, that's what I would have done.

Thank you... Sometimes I think I believe this; it's only when I look at something I've written that I hate (or simply can find no redeeming value in) that I realize I don't. I haven't cultivated the requisite faith. Or I don't have the staying power. Or both.
