forming underground railroad for our ultimate breakthrough

So, today I was running obscenely late, so I got in a cab. I had one of those angry cab drivers who like to complain to you, but that's not the point of this. What the point is, is that I was watching the people on the street and I saw this person, he was just there, in his jacket with the hood on, and I saw him, and thought to myself "Oh, yeah ( Read more... )

i love accents too. except new york accents don't make me nauseous. i would really love to meet someone from anothere part of the country who loved to imitate new york accents. it'd be like the highlight of my life.

i don't think i've ever heard anyone try and do a new york accent that wasn't from new york, and i think that would definately be one of the most entertaining things ever. someone could make that into a project, going around the country asking people to do a new york accent and hten recording it and like, noting the differences.

Even if I have one, at least it's not Bostonian. pixidreamz January 18 2006, 17:18:22 UTC
I like that you start your sentences with "so", because it always sounds like you're about to tell a story, a Simone Stamp I suppose. I love interesting speech/word patterns, and it's so comforting that each person has their own. But I fight with accents a little. The only accent I've ever really loved is Audrey Hepburn's, and that doesn't come from any particular country. English ones are funny, but having one would be a nightmare as it would be ridiculous to hear myself talk. And a lot of accents sound terribly vulgar!

I have a big fear that I have a New York accent, because I think those sound so terribly ugly. For example, how are you supposed to pronounce "idea"? I-dee, or I-dee-a? Everyone I know says "I-de-a", but now that I think about it the e-a change sounds distinctly accented. Anyway, old moviestars always say "idee"! New York accent, or not?

those are obscene. runnyyolk January 18 2006, 19:34:06 UTC
they are they're so vulgar most of the time. i think my favorite accent is yuko trying to do a new york accent. but we agree. this makes me glad.

when you say "i-dee" do you mean without the a? becuase i've never heard anyone say that before. i say idea like this: eye-dee-uh. i think that despite myself, i have a new york accent which i really dislike. like i say tour like toe-r but it's really too-r. at least i don't say advertisement like how my dad does, ad-vert-is-mint. i say, no, dad, it's ad-ver-tize-ment.

i'm sorry if that was boring but accents and how we think other people are wrong and we are right is just too interesting to me. like when i was seven! i went to north carolina, and i said, you have an accent. adn she said, no, honey. you do.
that pretty much changed my life.
