Serious Question.....

Our DVD player crapped the bed last week. We own a lot of DVDs and are hoping to start working our way through all of them. We are setting aside those we aren't really interested in owning. Movies that were gifted or bought in $5 bins at Wal*Mart. Anything we get for them goes to the next gen fund ( Read more... )

I'm probably telling you things you already know, but I stream HD all kinds through the xbox (using netflix) and the quality of the movie depends mostly on the internet connection.

Like, I've been watching 30 Rock in HD on there, streamed, and I can see every skin imperfection Tina Fey has.

But, that's movie streaming.

From what I hear, the ps3 is one of the better blu ray players out tehre right now, and, bonus, it plays games. And the quality of the blu ray is FANTASTIC. It's seriously mind blowing to see taht much better than real life. It's like wearing glasses for the first time.

(You also probably already know this, but the ps3s taht are being released anymore are not backwards compatible, I don't know if that makes any difference to you, though.)

I totally just read the post above me. I agree completely. 360 for gamers, and PS3 for movies.

Though Metal Gear and the new Street Fighter are there. OH and Little Big Planet. If you get a PS3, you must buy that game. Holy Wow.

PS3 for a blue ray player definitly
But all the fun fun games witht eh xbox are hard to deny..

If your only concern is movies, the PS3 is better, but you get more "stuff" for less money with an xbox. Plus Im sure they'll eventually make an external blue ray drive to make more money. Maybe just some little legal thing is holding it up now.

Its actually a competition thing. Microsoft was the the HD side of the last format war and they've decided to focus on digital downloads and streaming instead of installing blu-ray players.

Ironically Apple was the on the blu-ray side and in the end they decided on the digital model as well.

Alright, I'll throw in a little more detailed than I did on your facebook. I'm the kind of sucker that needs all the pretty toys, so I have a 360, PS3 and hiding somewhere is a useless Wii. I'm running both on a Sony Bravia XBR 52'' 1080p. 240Hz LCD tv. Because in this discussion the TV is very relevant. If your running on a TV that can't support HD there isn't a question. I also use my TV as a monitor for my PC ( ... )

A note on Digital Downloads and Downloadable content on the Xbox! If you download movies to Buy and save on your Xbox (they have an itunes rent/buy system) or anything you download Xbox has a major flaw they don't talk about. All of your downloaded content is saved to your Xbox's ID tag. If you Any reason your Xbox breaks and needs to be replaces, even if Microsoft does it, you will lose all that information and need to redownload it. After that the movies/content will Only be available while you are currently connected to the internet. When you redownload them they encrypt onto your HD that it's not the same System ID and only being online accessing the Live system can it verify you are you and allow you to access your stuff. This happened to me when my xbox broke I lose all my GH2 and oblivion downloads and still today (played oblivion) this hasn't been fixed. And yes, Xbox's break, everything breaks. So that's a big caution when you start getting digistuff on the Xbox ( ... )
