Now I am a believer in home-schooling... not because I think public schools fail the students, but because I think parents fail the children, and now it's dangerous for teachers to do their jobs.
Third graders... planning to assault a teacher... because she scolded one of them for standing on his chair...
I am without words for this.

Very isolated incident that will get way over reported and cause all of america to think all third graders are drug using, devil worshipping heathens who listen to way too much rap.
That said, I do think parents are failing their children. But this isn't why.
The violent kids don't scare me nearly as much as the lazy ones. (as a symptom of the downfall of america anyway :p )

Do I think all third graders are drug using, devil worshipping heathans, who listen to too much rap? No... that would be sixth graders (kidding...)
I agree, parents are failing their children, but on both counts. I don't think people understand just how strongly an impression that beating their children and/or being overly condescending towards their children can affect a child.
When I say it's now dangerous for teachers to do their jobs... I don't mean that every teacher in America is going to die soon. I don't mean that it's even going to become anything more than perhaps a few isolated incidents around the country. And they probably won't be related to this... in the past incidents, it's always been teachers of older grades. That notwithstanding, Pandora's Box has been opened. Third grade? I think most people always had an belief that, for the most part, elementary school teachers were safe from those demons. Now? That belief is out the window.
