Dani had survived the weekend. More importantly, she had survived sharing a room with her brother, of all people, for a whole weekend. She was ready for everything to go back to normal so she could reclaim her extra bed.

Unfortunately, Junior didn't seem to be cooperating. He still hadn't left yet.

"Well, it's settled," said Junior, hanging up on his cell phone. "Guess I'll just have to stay here a little bit longer. Rosa went back to El Salvador and there's no one at home while Dad's out of town."

There was a moment where Dani felt upset, because Rosa had been with the Davis family as long as she could remember. It was Rosa who made her birthday cakes, bandaged scraped knees, and tucked Dani into bed at night.

And then the moment passed. "So? Just hire a new maid. That's what I would do," she said.

"Nah, I'll let Dad take care of that when he gets back," said Junior. "I mean, you're better at that kind of stuff than I am."

He flopped down on Dani's spare bed. "So, looks like I'll be here for Thanksgiving. What kind of plans do we have?"

"'We' do not have plans," said Dani. "Can't you just go over to Raintree Farms? Jean would love to have you stay for Thanksgiving."
