Everyone likes to waste time on the internet, right?

By special request, I am putting up some Let's Play suggestions. Although probably only of interest to the person asking, I thought other people might also want to take a look.

What's a Let's Play? The solution to wanting to play video games while being too damned lazy to pick up a controller. Essentially, someone goes through the game with added commentary. This can be anything from informative commentary, an MSTing, horrified, rage-filled reactions, or a complete story made from scratch using the game as a base (popular with games that have little-to-no plot on their own).

Okay, so the place to go is www.letsplayarchive.com. You can also check the Let's Play TV Tropes page for recommendations from other people, including for other Let's Play archives, or check out the Something Awful forums (good stuff from the forums will find its way to the archive eventually). There are lots of otehr places too, but those are really the only ones I'm all that familiar with. In the archive, just search/find for the following names/titles:

Video:

ChipCheezum: He often pairs up with General Ironicus, and they play off each other very well. He plays MGS3 and fails at it a lot less than I do, although I think it's still in the forums and not yet archived. Also, he skillfully goes through great, unique games like Killer7, No More Heroes, and Beyond Good & Evil. Oh, and 50 Cent and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Blood on the Sand (It's entertaining in a so-bad-it's-hilarioius kind of way).

DeceasedCrab: One of the first LPers I ever watched, he mostly seems to specialize in free games. His LP is, in fact, what introduced me to Cave Story. Huzzah! Pretty much anything he does is good.

(Hey there, everyone, this is) Raocow: He mostly does Mario romhacks. LPs that I like to just sort of sit back and listen to, but for different reasons than JP: T. It's just fun to listen him to ramble.

Jurassic Park: Trespasser: This one is great to listen to, like professional DVD commentary or something.

Sonic the HedgeNOW LOADING...hog 2006: A marathon run by one guy and some of his buddies (most if not all of whom do their own LPs) of an absolutely terrible game. Their sanity starts slipping around Radical Train, and there were a couple instances when I thought pokecapn was going to snap if he heard "It's no use!" one more time.

Dead Space (SA forum): This LP is an excellent combination of entertainment and information, from continuity rants to the multiple unique ways to get Isaac killed. Comes with lots of bonuses (the "guided tours" I find especially amusing). Frankly, if there were awards for this sort of thing, this LP would be the rookie of the year.

DarkId: His LPs of the various Resident Evil and other survival-horror games are fantastic, with photoshop tomfoolery, alternate characterizations, and amusing descriptions of the nutty plots.

RedChocobo: Pokemon LPs, each with a very interesting player character (the one who's violently angry, the one who's only in it for collecting cute things, and the one who just wants to get back to playing video games now so would Team Rocket kindly knock it off sheesh) and take on the plot, plus additional amusing illustrations.

Yahtzee: Yeah, it's that guy. He did this one LP and brought his usual wit into play. Good times.

Animal Crossing: What happens when you take a cutesy game and shift it into the horror genre? This LP.

Boatmurdered: The usual hilarious, over-the-top Dwarf Fortress shenanigans in which much fun occurs. You'll never look at an elephant the same way again, that's for sure. (Warning: this one was a bit tough for me to understand the details of until I actually played DF because everything's ascii).

Oregon Trail: It's not where you go; it's how you get there. These always end badly, and by bad I mean awesome. You can bet your bacon that fording is involved.

Princess Maker 2: Answers the question of "what if an innocent little girl was raised by Gendo Ikari?"

SimCity 2000: My, what an eerie city. And why can't its mayor leave? Find out in this LP.

Risk (SA forum): I am sad that the organizer for this no longer has time, because the two games he ran were awesome! It's RISK, but each player creates a specific character for their country and leader, so you a have a steam punk nation, the Alien Roman Empire, a Libertarian corporation, or a "hat-based kleptocracy" (among others) going up against each other. Commentators are also encouraged, so there are football-style play-by-play reviews, a newspaper for each country, amusing photoshops, historical essays, etc. Also, the players trash-talk and make deals with each other in-character.

I also recently enjoyed the LP of Eien no Filena, a never-before translated JRPG for the SNES, Golgo13, and the GodHand LP. I actually stopped watching that last one 2/3 of the way through because I think I'm going to buy it now and don't want any more spoilers. Oh, and the Spyro LP, but that's partly nostalgia.

Off the SA archive and forums, I recommend Spoony's LPs of SWAT4, Ripper ("this LP, it's un-fucking-believable"), and Phantasmagoooria: An LP of Flesh. Linkara's Star Trek LP is also pretty good. (Special Bonus: This will also introduce you to the sites The Spoony Experiment and That Guy with the Glasses, if you haven't already encountered them.)
