Character Name: Erika Furudo
Character Series: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Character Age: She has no canon age, but I'll estimate her to be 15/16.
Background: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Erika
Her canon point takes place immediately after Episode 6.

Personality: To say the very least about her, Erika is a young detective who takes her pride in her work to extreme levels. While she is very, very intelligent and gifted with a spectacular memory, she knows it, and she’s not afraid to show off her superiority to anyone given the opportunity. She uses these traits to her advantage in solving mysteries, and is prepared to do anything to win. Erika pushes emotions aside, amplifies her confidence, and will do everything in her power to solve a mystery correctly and without making any mistakes.

When first meeting Erika, however, you wouldn’t expect a lot of these traits from her. She first presents herself as very polite, dignified, and well-mannered, as shown through her uninvited arrival on Rokkenjima in Episode 5. It was, at first, decided among the members of the Ushiromiya family that Erika was in every way “qualified” to be a guest of their prominent, rich family at their family conference. She seemed in no way out of her element, as if she were from a renowned and prosperous family herself, gaining a lot of respect from her hosts.

Upon the introduction of the epitaph to her, however, she begins to steadily reveal her true colors. When it comes to problem-solving, she can be described as heartless. For example, her sole reason for cooperating with Battler to solve the epitaph was to cause turmoil over the issue of inheritance in the family and in turn bring trouble to Jessica, who had irked her earlier in the evening. Erika claimed that the satisfaction that would bring her was all the payment she would need for solving the riddle, not wanting any of the gold that the epitaph would lead them to. This trait is a consistent part of Erika’s investigation methods, claiming emotions, such as love, are hindrances and useless.

Accompanying this almost heartless behavior is determination. Erika will do anything and everything to solve a mystery and make sure she is right. She plays to win, with no compassion, and with a certain drive about her. Mysteries seem to be one of her only passions, and she refuses to let anyone take them away from her. Her investigations are always thorough, so thorough, in fact, that in a certain case, she cut of the heads of the first six murder victims to ensure that the "dead" stayed dead. She is also known to use her beloved duct tape to aid her in her investigations, setting up a sure way to tell if anyone suspicious left their bedrooms during the night.

Erika is definitely immature in a few aspects. When she’s right, she rubs it in the face of her opponents, sometimes getting so excited that her voice becomes very childish and her pronunciation is, in turn, highly disrupted. (“BWATTLER-SCHWAN”. Really.). When she’s wrong, she throws a fit, and can’t believe it, doing everything possible to prove that she’s right, and her opponent is wrong, because the great detective can’t be wrong. She is very stubborn and submits to no one-that is, except her “master”, Bernkastel.

Erika’s more than slightly hostile attitude towards love is not without substance. As revealed in a conversation with her “furniture”, Dlanor A. Knox (that eventually led to a battle of wits), Erika’s excellent investigation skills led to heartbreak in the past. Because of her deductive eye, she caught signs that her boyfriend might be cheating on her. Upon further investigation, Erika found no proof that he wasn’t cheating on her. After confronting him about it, the relationship was ended. Though Erika would never admit it, it most likely did a lot of damage to her.

She isn’t without redeeming qualities, however. While she may not be the most beautiful girl in the world, she isn’t unattractive if she keeps her mouth shut. Her love for chopsticks is almost cute. When she talks about chopsticks, she gets the same gleam in her eye as she does when discussing a puzzle or mystery. Erika says that she eats like a “proud Japanese person”, eating everything possible with them and showing off her above-average ability in using them, entertaining her hosts on Rokkenjima at dinner. Erika also exhibits a love for duct tape, which is a tool she often utilizes in her investigation of the murders on Rokkenjima. She also tends to use English phrases in her speaking such as “< Good! >”. Erika even has a catchphrase: “Simply because of x, this level of reasoning is possible for Furudo Erika! What do you think everyone?”. (Whether those last two are redeeming are up to you.)

Overall, Erika is a pompous, stubborn detective who likes to see things go her way. She’d prefer to always be right, and being wrong is unheard of! She could probably be cute if she tried, but her confidence in her intellectual skill makes that a no-go. She’s a play to win kind of girl, and she’ll stop at nothing to make a case and serve her master. While her prideful nature turns people off to her, she doesn’t need their approval, for she is the great detective Erika Furudo. As the Witch of Truth, she has a passion for mysteries, chopsticks, and duct tape!

Abilities: Erika has a couple of abilities. To start, her hearing and memory are almost out of this world and almost perfect, though not necessary supernatural or special.

However, as the Witch of Truth, she has the ability to use Blue Truth and Red Truth. The red truth allows her to state the truth as an absolute, with no room for question. The blue truth allows her to challenge and possibly take down the theories of her opponents. She can also summon the Eiserne Jungfrau, her "furniture", or servants, to aid her in her reasoning.

Finally, she has Detective's Authority, preventing her from being the culprit and allowing her to take all necessary measures to investigate what she must without question.

Sample Entry:[The sound of clapping can be heard over the phone.]

Hello? Can I have everyone's attention? < Good! >

This place looks like some third-rate mystery, but I, Erika Furudo, will solve it! I've been doing some investigating. The set up is very interesting, but I will be able to explain it logically.

[She suddenly takes up authority in her voice.]

So, everyone, tell me everything you know! Even the stupid things!

Oh, my little gray cells are tingling! Hehe~
