Apparently, people were protesting the Pope. This doesn't really surprise me, though it does piss me off. See, these weren't atheists upset that the Pope was hanging out with our president. These were Protestants protesting one man, the Pope, and blaming him for all of the ( Read more... )

Summed up how I feel about the war and Roman Catholicism pretty nicely.

Re: Catholicism -- After meeting Nick's Ukrainian half of the family, I can totally get behind parts of Eastern Catholicism. Priests with families? Cool. Not having a church that is completely dark and somber? Super cool. His babcha's church was the most gorgeous church I've ever been inside.

Katie (McKee) Velazquez grew up as a Byzantine Catholic, and her parents are still Eastern Orthodox. I definitely find their version a bit more appealing as well (especially their iconography and architecture). Still, though, when I went to her church a couple of times there was an awful lot of sitting up and standing down every five minutes... ;)
