I'm lucky - I had enough disposable income on hand to get what supplies I didn't already have (and my momma taught me to keep the basics on hand for emergencies - didn't have to buy fuel or candles, and very little in the way of non-perishables). When I bought my house, it had a new addition on it that's got modern insulation, so it's always warmer/cooler than the rest of the house - and it's my master suite, so I've got a water supply in there, plus windows for light, and lots of blankets. It's large enough that the cats can hole up in there with me, small enough that if I close off the closets a few candles will help keep things warm in there. Along with providing water, the attached bath means I can stick the litterboxes in there and not have to have it right under my nose. If I need to cook something, I have a little grill, and I can set up under my attached carport, which is very sheltered but open enough that I don't have to worry about carbon monoxide poisoning - and it might even warm up that area enough that I won't be
