Politics ahead
I do not want Trump to succeed. I want our nation to succeed... and looking at the current situation, we are going down a dark and chaotic path. I can only hope that the resistance can actually do some good and mitigate the worst of the actions that our president and our Congress are trying to do.
It's an interesting juxtaposition, Trump and the Republicans in Congress. I think they've figured out that they can use him as a lightning rod to direct fire away from themselves while they legislate things behind the scenes that are going to fuck us up far worse in the long term than anything that Trump's illegal and unconstitutional executive orders can... although some people would say that what he's doing is going to be hard to top.
I can only hope that I am right that this situation is like lancing an infected wound, and will allow the poison within (racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia) to drain out, leaving us stronger and more whole and united as "one people, under God(s)". Because the alternative, that this could lead to our nation crumbling under the weight of our own division, that our United States could cease to be united, would have horrific consequences for the world. We already have the greatest military this world has ever seen. We already have the strongest economy in the world. If our nation falls to its own inner darkness, the world will be dragged into madness.
And don't get me started on "alternative facts." I'll just leave this here...
