One last time...

So, way back in the Stone Age, I mentioned Co-Irker, who seemed determined to do everything she could to be a total fuckup and piss me off... and I don't piss off easily.

She actually managed to get worse. I actually counted the number of times she'd skipped work in the first three weeks of June - of the 15 days when she was scheduled to work, she was out 4 days. Not late. Just didn't work.

This includes the time that she was scheduled to come in at noon, showed up at 3 pm, and when she finally made an appearance in the library, was not dressed to work and just hung around shooting the breeze with her family instead of working. She didn't even bother trying to work, was making no claims of working... she just acted like a patron instead of an employee for three hours, while Co-worker/New Branch Manager (hereafter called NBM) and I did all the work, after having been stuck at the library all day without a proper lunch break because she didn't bother to show.

She had actually arrived on time... maybe three or four times that month? Possibly? Not working there every day, I don't know for sure, but NBM had marked down when she came in significantly late or not at all on the calendar, and it was definitely more lates than on-times, and way too many not-at-alls for one month.

The worst time, though, hands-down, was when she didn't show up on a Friday, and picked the worst possible Friday to do it. You see, Branch only had 4 employees: NBM, Co-Irker, Gamerboy (who's not too bad, but is easily led so we tried to keep him away from Co-Irker) and New Old Guy (who had been there for all of a week or two at the time.) NBM came in to work that Friday, and NOG called in sick, which means that it's down to her and Co-Irker. Then Co-Irker calls and says that she can't get there, she has no ride, yadda yadda, the usual sob story BS... which means NBM is there by herself. NBM tries to call Gamerboy on the phone. She can't get hold of him. So she calls me.

Now, that in itself would be annoying enough. Every bloody time that Co-Irker doesn't show, takes off early, goes to lunch and doesn't come back for a couple hours and doesn't bother calling to say if she's actually even coming back that day, I'm the one expected to drop everything and pick up her shift.

I am the fucking ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF THIS BLOODY LIBRARY SYSTEM. I have responsibilities and duties beyond covering the shift of a slacker circulation clerk... but if no one else is there to cover, I have to let all of that go, because when it all boils down, the first priority is to make sure that the patrons get what they need, and to back up our coworkers when needed. And one person is never supposed to be alone in the library, because what happens if there's an emergency and there needs to be one person to handle the situation and another to call 911? What happens if the emergency is that the staff member gets hurt, and they have no one to help them besides whatever patrons happen to be there? So off to Branch I go, to cover her ass yet again.

However, as I mentioned, this was the worst possible Friday for her to pull this stunt. You see, Main Library, where I usually work Fridays, is always short-staffed as the people who worked the previous Saturday get to take that day off. We have another two on vacation. There were three staff members scheduled to be working that day, just barely enough to cover lunches, plus CO, who is awesome and is quite willing to come out of her office and deal with situations as needed, but has her own damn job to do that also does not include being a circ clerk, like making sure that all of us get paid and the library system stays solvent and on the right side of the law.

And Co-Irker not showing... again... meant that I had to go to Branch, which resulted in CO having to cover a lunch shift for an hour instead of doing her own damn job.

CO is a wonderful person. She's smart, she's generous, she's compassionate. She genuinely tries to do what's best for the staff and the library. She's given Co-Irker so many chances to straighten up and fly right, and Co-Irker thought that meant she was weak.

Co-Irker was dead wrong. A couple days later, CO, NBM and I did Co-Irker's job evaluation. We discussed Co-Irker's strengths (NBM says she is good with computers, although I saw little evidence beyond just competence there) and weaknesses (many and varied, from the fact that she refused to comply with a very simple and flexible dress code to not showing up for work to not performing her assigned tasks when she actually bothered to show) and came to a unanimous conclusion.

Co-Irker is no longer a co-irker. She's a member of the general public, because CO fired her lazy, ungrateful ass.

And it's about damn time.

However, she still managed to screw me over one more time. You see, I had arranged my schedule so that I would be off this Saturday. It's a big day in Pokemon GO, they're having the Pokemon GO Fest in Chicago and I knew that there would be all sorts of stuff going on even for the folks who can't make it to Chicago, and I was going to go to Savannah or Tybee Island or maybe even Athens to do some serious Pokemon hunting... and I have to take her shift.

Again. Because there's no one else to do it, as usual.

Which means no trip to Savannah, Tybee Island, or Athens. Which means that of the three prime times when they're going to go nuts with the Pokemon spawns, I'm going to be stuck in the library working instead of catching 10 bazillion pokemon for two of them.

And which means that I will have been working three 6-day weeks in a row and I'm fucking exhausted.

Thanks a fucking lot, Co-Irker. Have fun spending the rest of your life on welfare, and try not to raise your poor kids to be as useless as you are.
