why yes, this IS a dumb question worthy of laughing at if it were on Yahoo Answers

So I'm finally getting around to doing that oral surgery consultation re: wisdom teeth. The first appointment was Dec 30th, so I figured why not. They asked over the phone before even seeing anything if I'd like the surgery that day. I would not prefer this for several reasons, including the fact that I'd like to sit around and think about how ( Read more... )

Hm, well, I don't really know about the alcohol thing, but I can say (having done it twice) that you are certainly not going to want to go to a party within a few days of getting your wisdom teeth out. It depends what kind of anesthesia you get, but the painkillers can still mess you up pretty bad. I remember spending a lot of time throwing up (from the general anesthesia, and demerol) and zoning out/walking into things from the oxy. Fun!

hehe thanks. I mean, I guess rationally I knew I wouldn't want to even sit around at work within a few days, so a real party party would also be out of the question. :-) we shall see when I manage to schedule this! I need to find someone to babysit me! (or at least drive me from the place...)

Yeah, you definitely need someone to babysit you. When I got general anesthesia (this was the second time, the first time I just had a local) I couldn't even walk, or, you know, remember anything. I think I also ate stuff with a butter knife because it was the only thing I could fit in my mouth. :p

1) You will be in pain and you will look like a deranged chipmunk (my whole face and neck swelled up)

2) They usually give you vicodin or percoset to deal with the pain, which are no nos for mixing with alcohol (especially vicodin, bc it has tylenol in it, which is bad for your liver when mixed with liquor!), plus you get really drunk really fast.

3) If I remember correctly, you really aren't supposed to eat or drink much that first day after getting the teeth out bc you don't want to mess up the blood clots that form where your teeth were.

I don't think alcohol thins your blood, or dissolves stitches, BUT I was definitely out of commission for at least 3 or 4 days after I got my teeth out (they were impacted, so it was extra bad).

Good luck!
