And it didn't last nearly so long as Karr's. She was already at the nurses' station, her bag slung over her shoulder, trying to get the big german-type woman to hand over her release papers to sign a little faster. Ms. Giselle, however, is having none of it.

"Is there a problem, here?"

He seen the wrangling, taking measure of Rusti and the big nurse. She must be the one Karr was speaking of. Formidable.

No match for Rusti, he was sure.

Rusti growled at Kitt in Italian, banking on the hope that the nurse wouldn't totally understand her words. "Bitch won't hand over my dismissal papers so I can go."

There was a brief pause when she did turn to look at Kitt, eyes a little steely, speaking in English this time. "What are you doing here anyway?"

Kitt had to smile at that, replying in same. "It's your winning personality. She can't bear to see you leave."

"Word over the grapevine that you and Karr were hurt. I can't resist rubbing salt in any wound that Karr may have, so of course I had to come see for myself. He suggested I pester you instead. Here I am." He didn't blink, didn't flinch.

Rusti finally reached across the counter and snatched the papers out of the big nurse's hands, signed them and threw them back at her. "Remind me to run him through a trash compactor for it. You've got a long way to go to convince me you're worth my effort anymore."
