I'm a little paranoid of Russian authors, to be honest, especially Комаровский. From what I've read in the Russian LJ, he's not my speed.

But you're absolutely right, how could I forget the Birth Partner! Will remedy right away!

Yeah, I was not impressed with Ina May's book either. The part with pictures of people who gave birth at the farm kinda freaked me out. I did like that end of the book, where they show pictures of delivery problems/stitching and such, as I needed to know the "mechanics" of birth and some problems that could occur during/after.

I really liked The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth by Sheila Kitzinger. She is down-to-earth, doesn't have lines like "and only when you hug a tree in a remote farm you will be able to deliver a healthy baby". I liked the part with pictures where she talks about relaxation poses, what you can do when you have a contraction and such. Really helped me - I just needed _to_see_ what you can do to help your body.

Talks a lot about a birthing partner, exactly showing/explaining how he/she can help.

Honestly, this was the only book I finished reading. I am lazy - if I don't like the first few pages, it is hard for me to push myself to read the whole thing :D

The Birth Partner played that role for me - it also has a lot of pictures of poses, advice on what to do in labor and explanation of how and why various interventions happen. Plus, I'm very sensitive to vocabulary and tone, and this worked well for me.
