On self-doubt

I already feel the school-related stress building. It doesn't help that Bearfacts isn't showing that I've been given a check, the amount it was for, or that I've deposited it to my account. I really don't want an, "oops, you owe us $500 now!" email. But the real stress is over units and time. I am currently signed up for 13 units. 12 is full time. ( Read more... )

Good luck!

Don't be too intimidated by taking more than 15 units, I heard similar things about Davis. The truth is that what matters is what kinds of courses your taking. While anything requiring you to read tomes isn't terribly conducive to making this work, if you ever have a semester where you'll be taking lighter courses then it's definitely an option and a good way to give yourself some padding as to graduation time.

The thing is that I have the massive amounts of reading course, then a normal history course (lots of littler readings each week, maybe four news articles and 20-50 pages of text book), and then I have no idea what to expect from the German cabaret and Jewish Culture courses. I doubt the Cabaret class will have a lot of reading, but anything for the class will be hard because it's in a foreign language, plus run by the head of the department :P

Ack, that does sound stressful.

Deep breaths. I'm sure it'll work out fine in the end, one way or another. Good luck!

Well, two days in I have decided not to try for the Emma Goldman Papers project this semester. The reading load for classes isn't as bad as I'd worried, but the writing load is pretty intense (I may well have three 10+ page papers due May 13th). I'm back to looking up required units to graduate to see if I really need more.
