Actually, turns out bringing all crafts to 400 is more like 50m+ exp. Though I guess that's a slightly useless tidbit of info.

I've been pretty diligent about keeping up with all the information that's coming out about FFXIV (as are most former/current FFXI players I imagine); all this talk about taking the combat/xp/crafting/ls system--the first three seem to be all blended together--in a completely new direction in general is going to present a whole new set of headaches initially ( ... )

I managed to hit 32 before I lost the desire to login, well 30 probably but I was sick for 2 days and sitting at home grinding made sense. I don't really have any direct issues with the game, and I do enjoy going out and just killing stuff... but more as an option than a forced decision. I don't really enjoy committing to a long term group anymore either since I have a son. All in all when I did my first fortress raid and it was roughly 300 vs. 300 and people were suggesting to turn off the character models to gain 5-10 fps (for 20-25 total regardless of your system.)

At that point I thought to myself. Is this fun? Is this cool? In that moment of clarity my mind rang out with a resounding No. I did enjoy my time in the game however and it further educated me on what I like and don't like about the genre as time and releases go by.

I'm feeling the same way, I'm seeing the game as an excellent game, just bogged down with a whole load of crap. I hit that 24 quest block as well, ended up just doing repeat quests to hit 25. I personally can't be bothered leveling for a while now, so I might start crafting... then again, I've heard the crafting is boring in this game. Can't be any worse than FFXI's crafting system... can it?

Repeatable quests are a joke in Aion and I really cannot fathom as to why they made them such. When I hit my 24 block, my initial plan was to do the slew of repeatable quests in Theobomos. However, upon further inspection, it would've been massively worse to. I chose the Virago bird men things up north as my grinding spot and there is a repeatable to return 10 or 15 of their feathers. I calculated that in the time it took me to run back and get rewarded with the equivalent of four mobs worth of experience points, I could've easily killed twenty. No repeatable is any different if your only aim is exp gain.

To quote someone on the EJ Aion thread, to level cooking from 300 to 399 took 11 hours of tabbing in and out.

Those birds are Aion's equivelant to Colibri merits. I loved them. There is a NM at the end of the route for a quest... 5 minute repop and gives 30k EXP (which at that level is joy).

35-40 is grind on purpose.

You need 650 Krall Molars to gain the full set of 40 blues. So you grind thousands of Krall for that.

Then you go to Lepharist Citadel in Heiron, to get the accessory set.

The there are 3 Spy quests for these on the way.

I have all those sitting in my log waiting for my two friends to hit 37 so we can go do them.

Again, let me make the distinction, that won't feel like grinding to me. I'm with friends, I'm collecting items, there's a purpose with a reward at the end.

Why the fuck do quests give you 20k exp when you need 2million to level up? I come home from work way too tired to even log on. I only play it during weekends with my gf. Leveling in Aion feels like work, it is a great game, but man, I'm just not down with grinding. What a shame.
