2011

I think 2011 was the best year of gaming since 1999. Perhaps a large part of that is down to minimal MMO playing, a full time job and a good PC but the quality of games that came out out was just staggering. Given that, I couldn't resist the chance to briefly go over my favourite games of the year, which is something I've intended to do for the ( Read more... )

I really enjoyed the combat in Witcher 2. The game definitely did not ease you into its combat system at all when you first played but when you have it down and come back to that tutorial it is surprisingly easy. I remember constantly getting wrecked while trying to fight those guards while crossing the bridge that the dragon was strafing. I also enjoyed the story, I thought the voice work was fantastic (Iorveth and Roche, love those two haha), and the graphics were really really impressive. Graphically, Witcher 2 portrays the best motion blur I've ever seen and some areas of the game were just drop dead gorgeous (e.g. like wandering into the forest the first time).

Overall, I agree that 2011 was an amazing year for videogames, so much good stuff this year, even at the beginning of the year it felt kind of overwhelming just looking at the release calendar for 2011.

Gotta add Bastion to that list I think. Not much focus on smaller indie games this year--unlike the past three years--because there were a lot of big budget games that actually delivered.

Also, co-sign on Xenoblade though I can never get more than 5 hours in (banking hours wru~~).

I have no doubt Bastion would be on that list if I owned a 360 controller to play it. Trust me, I desperately want to play through it but I have no desire to spend £20 when I'm perfectly happy with a PS2 controller.

P2 is like my #1 GotY. I love the hell out of that game.
Then Skyrim. Followed by everything else, including fallout NV DLCs lol. Bethesda made a lot of money from me this year, come to think of it.
Cannot wait for US Xenoblade. Awesome game. Better quality (as my rom/emulator was derpin and i couldn't stand it anymore so i stopped playing it). Excited!

I totally agree with your stance on Uncharted 3. Uncharted 2 was indeed magical, but Uncharted 3 was weird...it just didn't captivate me like the 2nd one did.
