The pain lacing through this is so beautiful (pun intended). I love the way you write mutual anger and screw-ups between two people that are really rather fond of one another.
Paine not being totally smugly in-control -- or for that matter, Rikku -- is poignantly real.
You always make Rikku so delightfully annoying, and yet she's not. She's just not.
