So Kristy posted something the other day about how great the last Electrelane record was, and while they're a band I know absolutely nothing of, I've been hearing Jesse rave enough about them long enough that it caught my eye when the clearance bin at work suddenly filled up with half-price copies of said double LP in a nice gatefold jacket. Ah, I like Neu and edgier Stereolab so I must check this out.

My recommendation for you (despite your aversion of Nico) is her album "The End", which John Cale and Brian Eno worked on. Eno's piano/keyboard/synthesizer work is at its best, and Nico's voice takes on so much more dimension than on anything else that I've heard to date (perhaps on account of John Cale?). A very beautiful and haunting recording.

Thanks, Simon-- this one I'll trust you on. Which is not to say I haven't trusted your metal reccommendations, but metal's harder for me to swallow than sissy pop music.

Also, I'm glad I've finally recommended something that you like, too. Ha.

Have you checked out Sodom "In the sign of evil" 12" yet, though? It sounds like early Voivod as conceived and recorded by glue-sniffing eight year olds after an enforced 24 hour horror movie marathon-- incredibly stupid, inept, raw and obnoxious, and full of more life, energy, passion, angst and authentic, non-mediated feeling than all the fucking hipster-approved, contrived neo-freakfolk faggotry in the known universe.

Yeah, I'm sorry about the semantic slip there, but have you heard Devendra Banhart, Coco Rosie, Animal Collective etc? It's truly horrifying, some of the most soulless, contrived, feeble shit ever committed to tape, and people are buying it by the truckload right now.
