I remember it too. I also didn't really grasp what had happened. I *think* I was in 3rd grade? Maybe 2nd?
I also remember being TERRIFIED when it was announced we entered the Gulf War. I don't remember how old I was, but I was sure that we were to be invaded with men with guns and tanks and our country destroyed. It wasn't until MUCH later that I realized that people don't invade the USA with troops, guns, tanks and systemically take over, destroy our cities and kill us (with nuclear bombs). Too much cold war reside in schools, maybe too much about war in history lessons as well. Although, later in my life, I found that this does sometime happen (9/11).
