I can't remember the last time a game with so many obvious little flaws, bugs, and annoyances had still managed to be so enjoyable and entertaining

I wouldn't even mind the whole 'dying for a good cause' bit. I mean, I get and understand the concept of sacrifice. But it was so sloppy in execution, with so many obviously better options available and so little that made any sense. After such a good game leading up to it, it just feels like I got ripped off.
That was pretty much my reaction as well. The rest of the game was so enjoyable, but to end like that? I get that they had a whole "this is your life" theme going from the beginning, but come on. Sacrifice should have been *one* option among many, if at all. I mean, hell, the radiation in that chamber was kind of puny anyway; I'm wearing an advanced rad suit, dosed with rad-preventing chems, and flushing my system with *gallons* of Rad-Away. Ugh. I've basically just reloaded the game from right before the end sequence and continued playing, pretending that the ending was something satisfying and not a retarded plot-kill.
You know what I love? The fact that Fawkes' super mutant radiation immunity is a major plot point, and then at the end, if you have him with you, he pays you back for freeing him by letting you die in the reaction chamber instead of waltzing in and doing it himself.

But I agree 100% with your assessment. I love playing games to be the hero. But to lose everything you strove to accomplish just sucks.
