[Meme] via Faerieboots

I know a lot of people who seem to be muscling their way through something tough right now, and sometimes I find a kind word very helpful when I am struggling. So here's the basic idea: Comment below, and I will tell you something positive I think/feel about you. It can be big or small, but it will be a genuine source of positive regard--if I say ( Read more... )

Okay, since I'm sure you're looking for stuff other than what I'm frequently (read: constantly) saying to you in person. I will point out that there is a reason you've held me utterly enchanted for twelve years now. The most salient thing about you, however, is the extent to which your mind never stops churning out all kinds of insightful and delightful stuff. You are one of the most genuinely interesting people I know, in large part because of the range of topics upon which you are competent to speak, and in particular the way you mix-and-match stuff. (e.g. making up random lyrics and jingles on any topic imaginable, usually without missing a beat.) You can go from making your mom jokes out of legal concepts, to singing about something you're cooking, to bemoaning the evils of some social phenomenon or another - all in one breath and without missing a beat. I strongly suspect it is impossible for you to be a boring person, and even the attempt would be fascinating to watch. :P

Dear lord, where do I begin. I am completely jealous of how dedicated to a task you can be, and the way in which you wind up excelling at whatever it is you've set yourself to. I'm sure you'll brush this off as simply a matter of having put in the work - but that's exactly my point. Consider: On a whim you hacked together a parsnip cake recipe. Parsnip! In a cake! On a whim! The mind boggles at the level of Deep Voodoo(tm) involved there. Your current 'book a day' venture on LJ is equally impressive! This is stuff that takes serious work, serious dedication, and I will always respect your ability to marshall yourself.

Should we make tentative plans for the swanky brunch on the 19th?

Also, we still need to talk about your book.

The 19th features faerieboots and I needing to be in Newton at noon, do-or-die. I'd say yes if we can gaurantee being done by 11AM at the latest. And yes, we should chat about my book, thank you for reminding me. Moving on 7/1 is going to seriously max me out in the short run, though.

For your own part I will give you serious props for two things. On the first count, you (as demonstrated above) have this unflagging commitment to maintaining social connections in a culture that otherwise seems to be a little too 'out-of-sight out-of-mind.' On the second count you have the distinction of being one of the least self-aggrandizing hyper-intelligent people I know, while avoiding being too self-effacing. That's a difficult balance to strike, and one I see a whole bunch of intelligent people completely whiff on. The combination makes you one of the most approachable people I know.

Bet you weren't counting on that one, eh? :)

You have a level of social grace that boggles me, especially given the rapidly shifting conditions I've seen you maintain it under. In a storm of upheaval, uncertainty, and handwringing, you always manage to hold this serene/bemused composure that I know I wouldn't be able to sustain. I suspect it should be called the 'Zen Eyeroll.' ;)

I can always use positivity.

And positive regard from The Qing of Qoon is especially neato.

You are this meme. This has been true for as long as I've known you (and we've never met!). This meme is about sharing positive sentiments with people so that they feel better than before. You do this every day, to all kinds of people in all kinds of ways. And it is both helpful and appreciated.
