Through all this world

I woke up slowly this morning, in the grip of an unusually bad dream, so I am not handling this Pete Seeger news with my usual stoicism. When my students ask me one of the questions in their textbook, "Who is your hero?" Seeger is often who I say.

Rest in peace, old man. You've ably passed on the banjo to the young ones.

I grew up listening to his music, so when I saw the news very late last night/very early this morning, it really hit hard. I tweeted a link to a long and fascinating article/tribute in the NYT (somewhere around 1:30-2:00 AM my time). There was a lot in the article I didn't know, and it left me longing for more people like him. He was a genuine hero in ways I, at least, hadn't realized, in addition to the ones I knew.

Funny, for some reason, Pete Seeger has always seemed ageless to me, and I was so so sad to hear this news. A great man.

So sad. Will definitely do a little "If I Had A Hammer" at the Mint this weekend.
