I tell people that if it weren't for the Internet, I'd have no friends at all, and it is very true. Except for a less-than-handful of people I went to school with, I've never actually physically met most of my good friends. The only thing I have in common with most of the people around here is geography. Even my closest local friend I met online.
As for the spending time outside, I quit doing that about the time my brother got old enough to do all the athletic things my parents wanted to brag about. I was getting berated about not being sociable long before anybody but millionaries could have computers at home.
And kids checking phones? Pshaw. I wrote novels. I'm not sure I was on the same *planet* as my teachers most of the time. :)
