There's nothing worse than overly patriotic Canadians -- it's like they have the most obvious inferiority complex ever

They are terrifically annoying. Luckily, they're fewer in number than I thought they would be (but definitely still around). Their patriotism seems to be founded upon the basis that they're not American, which is the strangest brand of nationalism I've ever encountered.

I think they expect US citizens who find themselves in Canada to be there grudgingly. I know of a single such person in Edmonton (out of a lot of Americans currently living there). I appreciate that Canadians don't mind their taxes going towards a non-national's education (well, at least the University doesn't care). I love that my husband and I get free basic healthcare as long as we're there. Those are two HUGE things, and I'm not going to spend time bashing Canada because they wouldn't let us bring our guns across the border or similar. But I think there is some expectation that I will. Even the non-patriotic Canadians seem a little shocked when you say you like it in their country and are in no hurry to go back to the States.
