You can also use a teflon foot for sewing vinyl - really cheap. Pulling the fabric can mess up your needle alignment bigtime. Wish I could see this production!!!
If I recall correctly, when we made the spacesuits for BRP and F5 we had to buy the dowel rods and cut them in half lengthwise to make the buckle. Lowe's and Home Depot both cut other types of wood to size, perhaps they would split them for you. Just a thought.
Half-circle molding is getting harder to find; Lowe's didn't carry it at all, and Menard's didn't have any larger than 3/8".
The other option is to take two quarter-circle molding pieces and glue them together - but that only seems to be available in 1/2" (yielding a 1" half-circle).
Menard's said they can't split the dowels, and we don't have the equipment. So I bought the 3/8", in pine so it will be easy to file in the bevels on either end.
My buckle's a lot larger than the last one, and I cut it down some from what the math said it should be since it just looked enormous. (Having the additional clear vinyl does make a difference in what looks OK, sizewise.)
Ruth, you were the awesomest tentacle vine ever. I was very pleased with how seriously you took the part. It was a whole lot of fun and the audience members loved the Seymour/plant interaction.

A roller foot helps when sewing vinyl so you don't have to pull so much.

...though there's something to be said for "I am doing this now."
After all, I've been waiting to do this for at least 6 or 7 years. The stitching isn't perfect, but at least it is done.
