Auto tune and Glee

My life was better before I discovered the existence of auto tune.  I sort of enjoy it used in ridiculous amounts - see Cher's "Do You Believe in Love."  But it sounds really funny when applied without irony.  Like in Glee, where there are apparently several characters who shouldn't be cast in roles that require singing.  I really strongly prefer ( Read more... )

I don't watch a lot of TV shows; I sit through Law and Order when it's on, and sort of half watch Dr. Who if I'm wandering through the room when W has it on. Seeing this, I'm glad they did it but I don't think I'll add this to my rotation.

I think the Glee episode did help our numbers, at least over Halloween. We sold out on Saturday and Sunday night. Had to turn away over 100 people on Saturday. I don't watch many t.v. shows either, and I agree that Glee would not be something I would care to watch on a regular basis.

where there are apparently several characters who shouldn't be cast in roles that require singing. I really strongly prefer just having someone else dub the singing roles, as was done for Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady." At least then someone is really singing the role. When it comes to musicals, personally I don't think it makes any difference if the actors can or can not sing. In some cases, an actor who isn't a good singer can do a better job depending on the musical, the character and the performance. Sarandon is a TERRIBLE singer but she's one of the best Janets ever. But it depends on the show of course. For Rocky Horror I think it ruins it to have people that are really good singers, it's not a show meant for polished up Broadway perfection. It's meant to be raw ( ... )

I found it very interesting that Woody Allen insisted on having actors do their own singing for "Everybody Says I Love You" (and in fact got rather annoyed when at least one actor tried to sneak in singing lessons). I finally stopped watching Woody Allen movies after realizing I'd seen 5 or 6 and didn't like any of them. (I like his plays, at least what I've seen of them.) But I love the hospital singing and dancing sequence from that film ( ... )
