A soft ding rang out from her computer and Amanda pulled up her instant messaging program and saw the words “Happy Birthday Amanda!” over and over again on the white screen. She smiled and started typing in a smiley face and a quick “Thank you Delaney.” This was the third time she congratulated Amanda on her birthday. A dark shadow hovered over her shoulder, reading her computer screen. “It’s your birthday?!” A loud hushed excited whisper filled her ear and she jumped out of her skin before she looked behind her to see a short tattooed boy with a hand over his mouth to stifle his laughter.
Amanda glared at him, her brown eyes narrowing into slits, after catching her breath. “God Frank, you scared me!” Amanda said harshly but softly, hitting Frank on his buff arm. “Don’t laugh.” Frank finished chuckling and wrapped Amanda into a tight hug. “Sorry,” He said onto her brown hair and squeezed her slightly. “Happy birthday Amanda, even though you don’t tell your closet friend in Stanford.” Amanda was only half listening since she was wrapped in Frank’s inked muscular arms and she was just enjoying the embrace from her secret crush. “The only reason I didn’t tell you is because I didn’t think you wanted to be bothered by it.” Frank pulled away from her, his hazel eyes wide at Amanda’s explanation. “You’re the coolest person I met here. Why won’t I want to know about your birthday?” Amanda rolled her eyes at Frank’s response but a smile still stayed on her face anyway. “Thank you Frankie.”
“You know what?” Frank said suddenly, packing up Amanda’s bulky text books and stuffing it into her backpack. “I’m taking you out for your birthday. No more studying, just lunch, a few drinks, a night at the club possibly and all around Frankie service. Frank had closed her laptop, not caring if her paper was saved or not, and was pushing her out of the library and into the warm sunny campus of Stanford University. “Frank, you really don’t have to.” Amanda told him, trying to grab her blue laptop from under Frank’s arm. “I know but I want to Bella mia, it’s your fucking birthday!” He took her laptop and stuffed it in his backpack, knowing she won’t go in there. “Go and do what you need to do so can go to lunch.” Amanda stood in place for a few seconds, telling herself that Frank did not just call her beautiful in Italian, before going over to her dorm room to change.
Amanda’s roommate insisted that Amanda should wear some make up for her date with Frank. “It’s not a date.” Amanda had said. Her roommate just rolled her eyes and sat her down on her bed, dabbing on some concealer. Amanda came down in 15 minutes with a light blue dress and her face, which was covered with makeup, was covered up by her hand. She saw Frank waiting for her by the coffee cart, his white button down shirt open to see the ohsotight white t-shirt against his olive skin. She hissed quietly, Frank’s attractiveness overwhelming her. How can someone be that… SEXY? She noticed that she was just standing in the middle of the sidewalk just staring at Frank and she quickly made her way to her best friend in the school.
Frank smiled at Amanda when he saw her walking towards him. He saw how her blue dress flowed around her thighs. (The thighs he longed to touch while she covered them up with jeans and sweats.) He saw how she was wearing makeup even though she was trying to hide it. Frank wondered why she would she hide her face because she looked even more beautiful than she normally does. “Happy birthday!” Frank exclaimed as she grew closer. Amanda smiled shyly as he wrapped his arms around her, giving her a quick hug. Without giving any hint to where they were going, Frank led Amanda to Chinese restaurant a little off campus. He snickered when he saw her eyes widen at the sight of the restaurant. “It’s my treat birthday girl.” He said before pulling her in. They shared laughs and childhood memories again while they ate. Their fingers brushed more than a couple times but Amanda dismissed it as a reoccurring accident because Frank never showed any interest in being more than friends.
They spent more than three hours eating and talking before Frank led her to a new place. “Frank, it’s 11 at night. Shouldn’t we be sleeping by now?” “Oh God Mandi,” Frank laughed as he pulled her up to the dirty looking campus club. “It’s your birthday! You are going to have fun and we don’t even have class tomorrow.” Amanda sighed heavily and almost melted when Frank took her hand. They entered the club which was full with students having fun drinking and dancing. Music thumping from the speakers filled their ears while Frank led her to the bar. “To Amanda and her birthday.” Frank toasted with a beer in hand and they both clanked the necks of their beer bottles together. He took a swig of beer before addressing Amanda again. “You look really beautiful!” He shouted over the music and Amanda blushed at his words. “Thank you Frankie.”
“You know you are the mist amazing person in this whole university and in my life, right?” Amanda nodded at Frank’s statement since he keeps reminding her everyday. “Yes Frankie.” “I just want you to know.” He told her while he drank. He put down his beer when someone approaches Amanda. The tall guy was asking her to dance and he can feel anger building up inside of him. “Move it along asshole, I’m her boyfriend.” Frank stood up from his stool, coming up about a few inches shorter than the guy in front of him. Frank may be short but piss him off and he can kick your ass. The guy held up his hands in defeat showing that he didn’t want any trouble and walked away. Amanda was sitting in her stool, staring at Frank quizzically. “Boyfriend?” was all Amanda said. Frank chuckled awkwardly as he scratched his head. “He looked like an asshole. You wouldn’t want to dance with someone like that. You see, I was protecting you.”
Amanda laughed under her breath, blushing under the circumstances. “Alright then boyfriend.” Frank was still standing when Amanda drank from her beer. “Hey Amanda?” Amanda stopped staring at the bar and focused on Frank. “Have I given you your birthday present yet?” Amanda gave the quizzical look again. “Wasn’t this my birthday present?” She questioned. Frank’s mischievous smile appeared on his face. “Nah, this is your present.”
His hand cupped Amanda’s cheek, his fingers drumming on her skin and pulled her in close. Amanda’s breathing had gotten heavier; the scent of beer was hovering between them and their heart beats pounded against their ears along with the music. Frank pressed his lips against hers hungrily; he had been waiting for this moment ever since October. Amanda’s nerves and heart were jumping around inside her and her hands got a hold of his black hair and held on tightly. Frank’s teeth grazed her bottom lip when he pulled away, panting for breath. His heart was erratic and the smile on Amanda’s face almost caused him to have a heart attack. She took a few seconds to catch her breath before she started laughing. “This was the best present ever and I got an Xbox once.” Frank laughed at her, loving how adorable she is. “At least I’m better than an Xbox.” He said, his hands roaming his thighs and curves. “Damn straight.” Amanda confirmed before pressing her lips against his.
