Maliya - tower of earth - hesitant in command but understandably so

spider swarms - seem to do damage if allowed to crawl over people, mostly harmless kept at staff length, able to dispel low-level magics. Size of spiders varied from thumbnail to palm of hand. Initially believed to be different species but druid later advised all same species but markings appear only on larger ones.
"small" spiders - communicated via druid appear to feed on magic - drain mana by touch, blink
"large" spider - appeared very fast for it's size and/or armoured. Used appendages as weapons.
base camp - three buildings - one small building containing sleeping quarters - when door opened sent Defenders (and spiders) to sleep. Used base enchanting item found marked with air and general runes - suspected mass Sleep (worked on scouts not on Guard). One large building containing magically empowered machinery, apparently for processing Dust - when opened found an enchanted item marked with water runes - no effect detected, possibly drained by spider/s - suspected mass Coma. There was a "large" spider in here, although no obvious means of entry. Windows could have allowed "small" spider entry and it could have feed on Dust in machines. Third small/medium building - sleeping quarters including separate rooms.
sent patrols after Hamill's footprints to check he was okay and lure him back to base camp with stories of interesting machinery and hot toddies over a fire.
