Vegetarian bacon has been around for a long time! At least in the UK, but then again I lived with a partial-vegetarian housemate for a time so I probably just spot it faster these days XD
I'm just really not a vegetarian XD Stumbled upon vegetarian bacon as I was checking out a recipe that looked really tasty on Pinterest... I was amazed that such a thing [vegetarian bacon] existed! Vegetarian food usually has its own aisle in supermarkets over here and I never go down that aisle...
But does it taste any good??? I find it a little disturbing that vegetarians (people who don't want to eat animals, right?) want to eat stuff that looks (and tastes?) like the animal...
You've got to remember though, that some vegetarians are former omnivores who DO miss things like bacon from their diet, despite their newly-adopted stance on animals. Bacon and steak are probably the big two that new vegetarians miss the most XD
As for the Muslim aspect, I'd double check the ingredients in it just to be sure there's absolutely nothing Haraam in there. Some brands specifically say on them that they are Halal / Kosher
(Again, this might just be a UK thing. Some foods here have a label certifying that they are Halal/Kosher or approved by bodies governing Halal/Kosher foods. KFC is a branch that has a seal of approval, so it's not just speciality shops)
