projects update

1) the garden is coming along. Tons of work. Put in the low fieldstone retaining walls. Put in a fence (looks good, I think) and just need to add a wire mesh- component and gates but that can wait. Next I need to put in the path and till the soil (with lots of compost). Then I can finally start to plant

Personally, I swore off wood chips for mulch a few years back. We started using leaf mulch instead, shredding the ones that fall in our yard. We have a few huge maples, which provide more than enough leaves! They look just fine, are free and require no extra hauling from somewhere else, and they decompose to enrich the soil. No more scraping bark/wood mulch out of the way when planting, or finding it slooooowly rotting in the soil.
