Exchange news!

*rolls up sleeves*

All right, so let's get down to business to defeat the huns about the next exchange. Having hashed the matter over in my brain over the past week, I've come to the conclusion that several things need a bit of re-vamping and tweaking.

First, a major point I want to address is exactly how the exchanges should be run in the future. Obviously, the "no-strings-attached" option is quite popular, while the true exchange format is less so. As a result, each exchange up until this point has been a bit experimental, as far as rules and such go, since I've been trying to find guidelines that are fair and satisfy most of the members. You can't please everyone at the same time, and I certainly can't expect to accomplish something that's obviously impossible.

So, as yet another experiment, for the next "new" exchange we hold, I'm going to incorporate both requesting/writing formats and see how well that works out, where that leads us, etc.

Now what, exactly, do I mean by the next "new" exchange? Well, in all honesty, we've built up quite a surplus of unfulfilled requests, a total of twelve. Considering that the most fics ever submitted for an exchange in this comm was thirteen, you can see why this would be something of a problem.

With the leftover requests, I've compiled a sort of "rough draft" list for a general request-grab post. I say "rough draft" because I made it without looking to see at which stage of writing the original claimers/assigned authors were at before they dropped all forms of contact. I know that several people were very close to submitting their fics, but never actually got around to sending me the finished products. Most of the requests, however, seem to have been very much abandoned.

As I, myself, disappeared from LJ and left things here hanging for so long, anyone who failed to submit fics after signing up-- but maintained fairly constant contact up until my unannounced hiatus-- for any of the past exchanges will not be penalized.

Also (on a strict case-to-case basis, and with no offense intended to others who submitted requests), anyone who wrote for an exchange and also requested a fic will be given first priority. The entire nature of an exchange is, after all, to have a balance of giving and receiving. I'll do my best to round up back-up writers for the other requests, but anything that's unclaimed after this big one-time grab post will simply be dropped. That's just what needs to be done in order for this comm to move forward and have more, new exchanges.

So, first things first: anyone who has nearly-finished fics, would still like to fulfill the request(s) they claimed, etc., please contact me, either via e-mail (rwhgficexchange [AT] yahoo [DOT] com) or on this post. If you don't speak up on behalf of the request you claimed, I'm going to assume that means you're fine with me posting it on the Official Grab Post of Doom.

Any other comments, suggestions, etc. are also welcome.

Thanks so much for all of your participation, patience, and cooperation, guys! Hopefully, we can really kick things up into gear and make this community absolutely fantastic. ;-)

Edit: By saying that anyone who wrote in return for requesting a fic receives first priority, I'm referring to those who submitted fics, but never had their own request fulfilled. It's the requests that are given preference-- not the writers themselves; anyone can claim requests on the Official Grab Post, once it goes up. Sorry for any confusion!
