He would run laps around them, and look in the jets that “weren’t working” only to have them hit him in the face.

Awww!

As far as Holiday World goes, I've never been there for an enthusiast event (when I went with cplady a couple years ago, we just went before BeastBuzz). So, I was pleased with the park though its small for its own merits. I guess I'm glad for that; I don't have the enthusiast event expectation then. ;)

Yes, it's hard to go somewhere without that expectation. We still had a great time though!

I think the major difference is we've always made our non-enthusiast trips early or late in the season, so we weren't dealing with the crowds and it FELT like an enthusiast event to us because of it. I've really only been to two events...the one that was cut short and the first Coasterbuzz Fall Affair.

In fact I pretty much avoid all parks between late June and mid August because services are not quite as good simply because employees are dealing with two and three times as many people. I look at it like I do my own job. I provide the best customer service I can, but I just can't give users the same kind of attention during peak times (first month of fall and winter terms) like I can later when I don't have lines.

You have more guts than I did when it comes to youngster in tow. In fact, Ian didn't get his first trip to Cedar Point until he was 4 years old. Too many logistical issues. Of course, we were lucky enough to have two grandmas who were more than happy to keep Ian for a weekend.

It's hard to go somewhere without that expectation once going to an enthusiast event. I have the same problem with King's Island. As far as going in July, I knew it was going to be busy, but it really wasn't that bad. We still managed to get rides in and we waited no longer than 40 minutes for a ride. We still got great service, despite the amount of people in the park.

I think there's a huge difference in time frame between you raising Ian and us raising Jacob. Today we have amenities built into our cars to make life easier, especially DVD players. Honestly, how many vans did you see out there that even had a TV? Look at it now and I'm sure at some point it's going to become standard equipment, much like AC, power windows, cruise, etc.

BTW I too, have been to only two enthusiast events at HW. The mentioned 02 Fall Freak Out and 03 SRM. I had to work Friday night so I actually missed all ERT for SRM.
