New Year's Meme 2013

Dec 31, 2013 12:24

I've been doing this fun thing for a few years now.  I expect a proper "Year in Review" and "My Year in Toys" will come along later. :)

☆ What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Won NaNoWriMo!  Went on a mission trip!

☆ Did you keep your new years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Ahaha...I did abysmal at the weight loss thing, but writing went well with my attempt at NaNoWriMo this year!

☆ Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes!  One of my really good pharmacy school friends had her second child this year.

☆ Did anyone close to you die?
You know, I think 2013 was remarkably funeral-free.

☆ What countries did you visit?
Fiji!

☆ What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
A completed original novel.

☆ What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July in general due to my experiences in Fiji.

☆ What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Writing over 100,000 words this year.

☆ What was your biggest failure?
My weight - I didn't take charge of it like I had hoped.

☆ Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing other than my standard two-weeks colds.

☆ What was the best thing you bought?
I'm loving Ever After High right now, but my MOTUC Castle Grayskull is totally awesome.

☆ Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My parents!  They had a rough first quarter this year with Mom's broken leg, but soldiered on really well!

☆ Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
General work-related crap.

☆ Where did most of your money go?
Student loans, though I gave a sizable about to Mattel (Master of the Universe Classics, Monster High, Ever After High), Integrity Toys (Jem), and Jakks Pacific (Winx Club).  Right Stuf also pretty much slayed me with their end-of-year anime deals.

☆ What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Seeing Jerry Seinfeld live!  Sarah Brightman concert!  Attending two anime cons in one year!

☆ What song will always remind you of 2013?
"Let it Go" and "For the First Time in Forever"  - Frozen music in general, actually

☆ Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?: the same?  I have hope that writing will continue to provide some much needed structure in my life.
ii. thinner or fatter?: fatter.  HOLIDAY BINGING.
iii. richer or poorer?: poorer (CAR PAYMENTS)

☆ What do you wish you'd done more of?
Made more human connections. Write more often. Start drawing again. Get to the gym more regularly.

☆ What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time on the internet.

☆ How did you spend Christmas?
Driving all over creation to visit family, followed by a post-Christmas Nutcracker performance in SF.

☆ Did you fall in love in 2013?
I fell back in love with writing and fic. (And NaNoWriMo!)

☆ How many one-night stands?
Haha. NONE.

☆ What was your favorite TV programme?
Cartoons: Winx Club S5; Anime: Slayers, Princess Tutu; Live Action: Star Trek DS9, Black Books

☆ Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not really.

☆ What was the best book you read?
I can't say just one, having read so much great stuff this year: but "Beauty" by Robin McKinley, "Legend" and "Prodigy" by Marie Lu, and a reread of "Ender's Game" all stand out.

☆ What was your greatest musical discovery?
FROZEN.  I flippin' loved that movie/music.

☆ What did you want and get?
A new car!  It's nice to finally replace my 1998 car.

☆ What did you want and not get?
I never got down to Disneyland/So-Cal this year to visit friends.

☆ What was your favorite film of this year?
Frozen!  Though The Hobbit Pt. 2, Ender's Game, and Oblivion were all really good as well.

☆ What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned twenty-eight and spent the day driving to Lodi from San Jose after visiting my brother to have a big family dinner.

☆ What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Actually seeing progress from the time spent at the gym.

☆ How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Business casual. I think I can count the number of times I put on a tie with one hand.

☆ What kept you sane?
Reading, writing, good shows/movies to watch. Talking to my family on the phone/trips to see them.

☆ Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The cast of Star Trek DS9!  They're so adorable.

☆ What political issue stirred you the most?
Gay Marriage.  People need to get over themselves and remember that equality is for everyone.

☆ Who did you miss?
The family. Being far away from all of them still sucks.

☆ Who was the best new person you met?
The awesome people of Fiji!

☆ Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013:
I always thought I would hate a mission trip, but it ended up being my highlight experience of the year.

☆ Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"It's funny how some distance

Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can't get to me at all

It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me,
I'm free!"

In 2014...

☆ Will you be looking for a new job?
I hope so.  It really depends on if anything opens up in a better area, but I'm pretty done with my current job.

☆ Will you be looking for a new relationship?
Who knows?

☆ New house?
Perhaps. Depends on how long I think I'll stay in Redding.

☆ What will you do different in 2014?
Hopefully get to the gym on a regular basis!

☆ New Years resolution?
To continue my writing.  I want to work my way through Holly Lisle's "How to Think Sideways" and self-publish at least one thing by year's end.

☆ What will you not be doing in 2014?
Hopefully buying as many toys. I'm feeling a bit of burnout in that corner.

☆ Any trips planned?
Nothing for sure, but I'd like to visit Anime Expo again next year.

☆ Wedding plans?
LOL.  (Actually, a good friend of mine is getting married next summer!)

☆ What's on your calendar?
10 year High School reunion this April

☆ What can't you wait for?
To take a few weeks off!  XD

☆ What would you like to see happen different?
See my family and friends more often. Get out more in Redding.

☆ What about yourself will you be changing?
Hopefully my weight.  (Going Paleo in January!)

☆ What happened in '13 that you didn't think would ever happen?
I went on a mission trip and actually enjoyed myself.

☆ Will you be nicer to the people you care about?
Hopefully. I never try to be mean. :]

☆ Will you dress differently this year than you did in '13?
Hopefully I'll dress better. Losing more weight = new clothing racks opening up.

☆ Will you start or quit drinking?
I'll never drink.

☆ Will you better your relationship with your family?
I hope so. I've thankfully never had a bad relationship with my family, but being away from them most of the time make me feel more kindly toward everyone.

☆ Will you do charity work?
That would be nice.

☆ Will you go to bars?
Never.

☆ Will you be nice to people you don't know?
I pretty much ridiculously friendly to people at work.  Killing em with kindness.

☆ Do you expect '14 to be a good year for you?
I definitely hope so!

☆ How much did you change from this time last year til now?
Deepening bags under my eyes?  I can actually feel a few muscles in my arms?  But I gained weight?

☆ Do you plan on having a child?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NO.

☆ Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?
I had better be. If we aren't then I'm epic fail at friendships.

☆ Major lifestyle changes?
What does this question even mean? I don't plan on smoking pot or becoming a swinger if that's what it means.

☆ Will you be moving?
That one's pretty much totally up in the air.

☆ What will you make sure doesn't happen in '14 that happened in '13?
Gluttony and not going to the gym enough!

☆ What are your New Years Eve plans?
I work New Year's eve and day.

☆ Will you have someone to kiss at midnight?
Yeah no.

☆ One wish for '14?
That I can channel some of the energy that I have put into consumptive hobbies into more productive/creative endeavors.  I took some good steps toward that in '13, but it needs to ramp up. :)
