Only one more year now until the big three zero next October. I will be expecting my fandom grandpa card to come in the mail about that point.
does this mean I have a fandom grandma card since I'm over 30? ;)
And they got me a Kindle Paperwhite! I definitely need to start utilizing it, because damn if I am not drowning in a sea of paperbacks. Every time I visit a Friends of the Library store, it is pretty much guaranteed I was walk about with $5-10 worth of books, which at the crazy-low prices stores like that sell for, is like five to eight books
bwahahaha! No offense, Ry, but my mother got a Nook for the same reason and she still comes home with $$$ books, so you'll forgive me if I laugh because I can still see you coming home with books even if you do have the Kindle
Another November of NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow! I'm hoping to attend the kick-off party this year as well, because I totally enjoyed the write-ins last year. They were a great motivator to keep me on track. This year, I'm planning on taking my Genderbent Oz
( ... )
I think it's more like...when I was really getting into fandom stuff around...age twelve or so? I always thought of thirty as so old, and wondered if I would still like this stuff at twenty, no less the far off thirty! And yup, I still like it all. XD
Yeahhh...I'm probably genetically incapable of turning down a book sale. *sheepish* And I already even have so many books I haven't read yet!
And I already even have so many books I haven't read yet!
I hear ya! ::eyes the Sholan Alliance:: I really need to locate the other books ::sheepishly admits to owning only the 5th book out of an 8, possible 9, book series:: My mother grabbed the 5th book, not knowing it was a series XD
My grandmother once left a message on the machine, "I know why you're not at home, you're all at the library book sale buying many, many, many more books, which you need like a hole in the head." It's a ritual for my whole family.
From the lofty heights of 34... I have brief flashes of, "hey, that was totally a mature adult thing I just did!" and that's about it. It's weird, I thought maturity just happened to you but it seems like not so much. I wonder though if my niece sees me as an adult or some kind of mutant inbetween creature.
Haha, that message is awesome! I get death glares from my parents after going to the used book stores in their area because they see I always come home with a bag!
Oh, me too! I had to go to the DMV and renew my license/get a new picture a few weeks ago...and I felt really proud of myself afterward. XD
Sending you awesome (slightly belated) birthday wishes~ Hope the day (and year) treated you well ^^
Fandom grandpa... I like the sound of that.
I've got kids in my life now (maaaan so very, very much has changed) so I've rediscovered so many of my old loves and obsessions. Trying to pass it all on. Samurai pizza caaaaaaaaaaaaats
A friend of mine has moved to Japan to teach English and we promised to exchange books via snail mail. I recently moved and cannot find where all my books have gone... Everything's all over the place. I can't reread the books I want and it's doing my head in. My personal hell.
Jessieeeeee! So good to hear from you again! :) And oh my, kids! That really is a big change since we last talked!
I felt super fandom grandpa after going to Anime Expo this year and feeling ancient after standing in the hours-long badge line and feeling generally fed up with being treated like a hyperactive 14 year old.
OMG Samurai Pizza Cats! That used to come on early weekday morning and I remember watching it while I was getting ready for school. Good memories.
on a mildly related note - there is a Love Live game on the Google Play store
and in regards to the 80s Transformers - do yourself a favor and watch The Transformers: The Movie (1986). Eric Idle of Monty Python fame is in it (Wreck-Gar), Leonard Nimoy aka Spock is in it (Galvatron), and Orson Welles (yes, that Orson Welles - Citizen Kane, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi [he was the narrator], Moby Dick, Jane Eyre) is in it (UNICRON). And this is the movie that had a particular character die in it that caused so much grief that they had to change the plot of a different Hasbro movie because of it!
YouTube has it up for a rental of $2.99 (I legit own two copies on DVD - one of which was the anniversary edition, heh)
here's a small teaser - This movie starts out dark, holy crap. Let's show how serious a villain Unicron is by having him just casually eating a planet in the first five minutes of the movie
Oh, and I forgot to mention that Weird Al Yankovic has a song in the movie

Actually there's a Hyperbole and a Half comic that perfectly described my life.

I have been meaning to see that 86 Transformers movie for ages. Heh, I just want it to come to some streaming platform so I don't have to buy it.
