First off, happy birthday to
deftrevenant. I miss you, man.

I've only had to put one cat down ever - he had FIP, had lost half his body weight, and wouldn't eat anymore, or even hardly lift up his head. Before I made the decision, he looked up at me, and it was so hard to look into his eyes and know I had to put him down; but he wasn't going to live, and he was likely in a lot of pain (FIP is kind of a wasting disease). I couldn't be with him, but I regret that now, despite KNOWING that it would have been a bad idea; so I totally feel you on that; it seems horrible to be with them, but wrong not to, at the same time. I trusted my vet to make him feel comfortable, so I guess it was ok.

It's probably because cats aren't exactly pack animals, but when you remove one of them from the picture for any amount of time, the others get happier and get angry when that cat is returned.
Plus it only has to help that I'm not yelling and chasing Chico around for doing bad things, which was keeping my youngest scared and hiding much of the time lately.
Everyone's come out and had been spending time with us all day. Now to get rid of the remaining urine smell.

I feel kind of bad because this reminded me of the time we took Jane's cat to the animal shelter but I know they were two totally different experiences.

It was a pretty amusing situation, really, the wriggling bookbag and the giant rubber stamp...

Steve can be a real jerk sometimes.
In all seriousness, I feel for you. I had to do this myself a number of years ago. In time, all will be well.
