Mm.  It's been four years since I read any Shirley Jackson.  I missed her!

Shirley Jackson, known for the short story "The Lottery" was basically my obsession at fourteen, both her short stories, and her life - I read her biography, and the collections Come Along With Me, The Lottery and Just An Ordinary Day, but never any of her novels until today ( Read more... )

Ooh, I loved "The Lottery!" I shall have to add this book to my list, it sounds pretty awesome. And I never think it's a bad thing seeing oneself in characters; I was pleasantly shocked last semester while reading Terry Pratchett to discover myself within the pages. Granted, I was an iron-fisted, manipulative, heartless, ruthless dictator. But I was a delightfully elegant and cunning one! ;)

HA! You know, that's 100% how I always felt about raking the leaves, although that was combined with, "But but but the leaves look so NICE in the yard! Why do we need to throw them away?"
