I'm back in Vermont now, and I will in fact be returning to SJC as a senior.  In fact, apparently I was being so silly that Mr. Maistrellis, my language teacher would not stop teasing me about thinking I was going to be kicked out.  ("Do you always let personal fears overcome logic?")  So we packed up, drove home, got back here at 5AM, and I ( Read more... )

I take it as a given that Mr. Maistrellis will tease us for any reason, at any time, but I'm sure he enjoys it when we give him such good material to work with. :)

I have often gotten sick right at the start of vacation, so your explanation makes a great deal of sense.

W&P is great. Just take it slow and steady; the last several hundred pages go really fast, but in the beginning it can be hard to figure out who all the various Russian aristocrats are and why they are all speaking French. I assume you're reading the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation for maximum ease and enjoyment?

Glad to hear you're doing well - have a great summer! Much love!

Oh, hi! Where are you right now? Is there any way I can contact you?

Yeah, Mr. Maistrellis even commented, "I don't know why I like teasing you so much. Oh well, I do."

I did! I got a beat-up copy that a graduating senior used last year of P&V. I really liked them for Dostoyevsky, so I'm looking forward to using their translation. Once I settle more into the summer I'm going to figure out how many pages I need to read each morning and evening in order to finish in time.

I still don't have a replacement for my phone, but I can call you for free on the house landline when I get a chance - but because everyone uses it, contacting me through it is fairly difficult. I have your number, though; if you see a 415 number trying to call you, it's probably me.

Absolutely! Do you have my house number? My cell phone doesn't work at my house.
