I really like flickers. There are lots and lots of them in my neighborhood.

Our flickers sit on people's lawns and eat ants! Very odd for a woodpecker.

I read on a wikipedia page that they use ants as part of their grooming process. Something the ants secrete is good for their feathers. If you trust wikipedia.
