Well, I was able to shake President Bush's hand and get somewhat of a picture of him and myself when he stopped by Battle Creek, MI. I was able to get the great standing spot by coming the night before and volunteering as event staff

Up until a year ago, I'd have been giddy to meet the President. Now, I'd have to bite my tongue.
Kind of ironic, since you're not (enthusiastically) supporting him.
I've always thought being in the Event Staff would be cool. Did you have to wear one of those yellow shirts, too?

George W. Bush is campaigning for a second term as President, true. However, he is still the President, Commander in Chief, leader of the free world. I would consider it an honor to shake the hand of any sitting or former president. Yes, I achieved the handshake through a political rally. In my mind, I'm able to seperate the two, but apparently most people can't, or don't.
Event staff was pretty good. No shirts, just flimsy event staff tags attached to a long thing (I forget the name) that you wear around your neck. A lot of people got some jobs that would suck, but I got pretty lucky/didn't do my job and went to the VIP section.
Overall I'm glad I did it, and now I can say I've shaken a President's hand.
